Tips from the Pros

Golf Tips of the Month

Is your golf swing connected or disjointed?
By Doug Weaver, Director of Instruction

Many golfers are plagued with inconsistency:
Their games are predictable one day but not the next. Some play well on the front nine and not on the back. When your swing is properly connected the arms and body are working in harmony for predictable, repeatable and accurate shots. Disjointed swings include moves like flying elbows and chicken wings.

Vijay Singh keeps his swing connected by practicing with a towel under his arms; Davis Love uses the Medicus and Fuzzy can be heard whistling. Let us do a swing analysis for you - then we can give you a simple and effective method for you to keep your swing connected.
This will increase your enjoyment of the game and improve your consistency.

Getting more distance
By Doug Weaver, Director of Instruction

Players are always asking me for more distance. Try the following steps: Take a five-minute walk in your neighborhood... then stretch your hamstrings and hips and shoulders. Then, once you're warmed up, go to the course and stay active, keeping your muscles loose. Relax your grip to lengthen your back swing and remember: The power lies in our hips and thighs. Sam Snead said "Golf is like dancing - it is all in your legs".
So - warm those muscles up properly and go for more distance!
