A Nod to Mother Earth

Every April, the world stops and gives thanks for the beauty that is Mother Earth – and one of her greatest gifts, we believe, is Hilton Head Island.

In honor of Earth Day, April 2, Hilton Head Monthly and Experience Green will host a celebration of the natural environment in one of the loveliest places in the U.S. Held at Shelter Cove from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., there will be events for all ages throughout the day.

Some of the activities include a green art exhibit, green resources expo with demonstrations about earth-friendly products, sustainable waste stations teaching proper composting and recycling techniques, a green transportation station including a demo of a new electric bike and more. At 3 p.m., there will be a presentation of the Green Arts awards, a play aimed at kids and the cutting of the green ribbon for recycling.

Kids will enjoy a variety of fun activities. The greenzone kids area will have face-painting, crafts and a bounce house. There will also be a climbing wall and a play called “Trash Talkin’” for kids to teach environmentally-friendly lessons. Families can embark on the Save the Planet Scavenger Hunt to follow clues that teach environmental facts and upon completion, they’ll be entered into a drawing for prizes.

If you download your tickets ahead of time, they’re free; if you get it at the gate, it’s $5. Kids 12 and younger are free. For more information, visit Happy Earth Day!
