Palmetto Dunes

Course Profile: Arthur Hills

The Arthur Hills course, ranked 4.5 stars by Fodor’s Gold Digest, features a series of rolling dunes, as well 10 holes on the water. Named the South Carolina Course of the Year in 2009, the course was designed to encourage precision.

The dunes create many opportunities for off-balance lies and the ocean breezes present an additional challenge. says, “There is very little sand on the course, making the hazards a little harder to pick out. Beware the swales, tight fairways and lots of water.”

Most people recognize the Hills course by the Leamington Lighthouse that sits on the 15th hole. The lighthouse, built sometime between 1879 and 1880, was part of a navigational system of lights guiding ships into Port Royal Sound. It’s the only historic lighthouse on Hilton Head and one of only a few surviving in the state of South Carolina.

Don’t forget we serve breakfast and lunch at the grill and we dish up a mean New England Clam Chowder that you have to try. We hope to see you all out at the Hills course and if you have any questions ask for our head pro there, Clark (he’s wonderful).
