TIPS FROM THE PROS: One way to cure a slice
Constributed by Doug Weaver, Director of Golf Instruction
The slice is the most dreaded shot in golf. It reduces the distance the shot goes and results in hazards, penalties and awkward circumstances. Slices start off as fades and grow incrementally along with the anxiety produced. To cure this, swing the golf club like you are swinging a baseball bat. Most of us have played softball or baseball. The traditional batting stroke allows the forearms to rotate in both the backswing and the forward hit. The golf swing needs the same forearm rotation to allow the clubhead to be square at impact. Incorporate this baseball swing into your preshot routine and then trust the feeling produced. Try it on the driving range first.
Palmetto Dunes offers Full Swing Clinics for golfers on the Robert Trent Jones Course every Tuesday or Friday morning.

ON THE COURSE: Fazio Greens Replacement
Contributed by Patrick Wake, Golf Superintendent
How could golf at Palmetto Dunes get any better? Palmetto Dunes recently upgraded the grass on the popular George Fazio Golf Course on all 18 holes and on the practice green. All TifDwarf Bermudagrass on the Fazio course has been replaced with a more shade-tolerant, state-of-the-art Diamond Zoysia grass, which promotes superior and consistent year-round playing conditions for golfers. Diamond Zoysia retains its color throughout most of the year, eliminating the need for fall cool season grass over-seed and the corresponding spring transition to warm season grass. Reserve a tee time on the Fazio course today and experience the new greens!
THE RIGHT STUFF: Southern Tide is Making Big Waves
Contributed by Brad Marra, Director of Golf
Looking for something new to wear? The new kid on the block, Southern Tide sportswear, is giving well-known sports brands a run for their money. Southern Tide, created by Allen Stephenson, offers a brand of polo shirts that combines the quality and finesse of European tailoring with Southern ideals and symbols. Stephenson, a former USC student, was inspired to start the company after studying abroad in Italy. Although he appreciated Italian style, he longed for the laid-back Southern look that he was accustomed to. Stephenson brainstormed a way to combine the two qualities together. Look for Southern Tide's unique logo -- a blue and white Skipjack fish -- at Palmetto Dunes Pro Shop!
