TIPS FROM THE PROS:

Recovery Shots for Awkward Lies
Constributed by Doug Weaver, Director of Golf Instruction
Does this sound familiar? The golf ball is above your feet and you’re standing in a bunker wondering how you got in this sticky situation. By preparing for the worst case scenario, you can recover your game. Sidehill lies are common and are rarely practiced. Here are some easy tips to remember: find a point in between your toes and heels where your balance feels like it is under your shoestrings, take multiple practice swings to allow your body to adjust to the feeling of that particular shot and ask your playing partner to watch where your ball goes so you can focus on making solid impact. Good luck!

ON THE COURSE:

Leamington Lighthouse
Contributed by Clark Sinclair, Head Professional, Arthur Hills Golf Course
If you find yourself looking at a 94-foot tall cast iron structure surrounded by rolling greens, then you’ve discovered the historic Leamington Lighthouse tucked away in the award-winning Arthur Hills Golf Course. Originally known as the Hilton Head Range Light Station, this distinctive structure was built between 1879 and 1880 as part of a larger system of navigation lights guiding ships into Port Royal Sound. The Leamington Lighthouse has the distinction of being one of only a handful of surviving lighthouses in South Carolina and is, in fact, the only historic lighthouse on Hilton Head Island. Golfers consider this landmark a familiar and welcome beacon on the course.

THE RIGHT STUFF:

Smooth Driver
Constributed by Samm Wolfe, Head Professional, George Fazio Golf Course
24 different drivers in one? Wow! Players can take their game to a whole new level with thrilling new drivers like the TaylorMade R9. This impressive driver is designed to adjust as you, the golfer, see fit. Here’s how it works: using a special wrench that comes with the club, you can adjust both the head and the weights to achieve different effects. If you set the R9 with a closed face, the ball flight will be higher than you set it with an open face. If you’d like to try the new TaylorMade R9, visit the Pro Shop at Palmetto Dunes and try your hand at our vector launch monitor!
