|TIPS FROM THE PROS:
What’s Blowing on the Breeze?
Constributed by Doug Weaver, Director of Golf Instruction
We’ve all snatched up a few blades of grass and tossed them in the air. The question is, now that we know which way the breeze blows, do we know what to do about it? In most cases, the answer is no. Most players swing harder in an attempt to counter the wind. But trying to hit the stuffing out of the ball is a counterproductive strategy. Here’s why: The harder the swing, the more spin on the ball, which is only exaggerated by the wind. So by swinging harder, you’re not neutralizing the wind, you’re playing into its hands. Better to swing according to the old axiom, “Nice and easy when it’s breezy,” than trying to hit the ball through the wind!

Leamington Lighthouse History
Contributed by Clark Sinclair, Head Professional, Arthur Hills Golf Course
The Hilton Head Rear Range Lighthouse at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort -- also known as the Leamington Lighthouse -- serves as a familiar sight overlooking the Arthur Hills Golf Course. This historic lighthouse, which is featured on the National Register of Historic Places and part of the Inventory of Historic Light Stations, occupies a unique place in Hilton Head Island history. One of only a handful of surviving lighthouses in South Carolina, the Hilton Head Rear Range Lighthouse is the only historic lighthouse on Hilton Head Island. This distinctive structure was built between 1879 and 1880 as part of a larger system of navigation lights guiding ships into Port Royal Sound. Today, the lighthouse serves as a welcome beacon to golfers playing the Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Dunes.
