TIPS FROM THE PROS: Bring Your Other Athletic Abilities to the Course
Contributed by Doug Weaver, Director of Golf Instruction
Jhonattan Vegas is a middle linebacker standing 6 feet 2 inches and weighing 220 pounds. Yet, he's ranked No. 1 on the PGA Tour. His golf game is structured on great balance from his legs that allows him to swing aggressively. He also combines that swing with accuracy, putting him 24th in total driving.
Vegas is known to draw on his baseball background where he played third base. The throw from third base to first is very similar to a golf swing. Both require the following three moves:
1. A patient move in the back stroke allowing the body to coil and uncoil creating both speed and accuracy. 2. The grip pressure must be light to release the ball and to maximize leverage and ball speed. 3. The forward motion must be a smooth but aggressive turn from the ground up, resulting in all the body weight transferring to the forward foot.

ON THE COURSE: Slammin' Sammy Sets the Tone
Contributed by Clark Sinclair, Head Professional, Arthur Hills Golf Course
It pays not only for bartenders to have what's known as a "strong following" but also for golf professionals.
Just ask the members and regular visitors to the George Fazio course at the Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort on Hilton Head Island. Perhaps a latter-day version of "Slammin' Sammy" Snead in terms of his friendly and outgoing demeanor, Samm Wolfe is the pinwheel of the bustling operation, which has averaged more than 30,000 rounds over the past few years.
Wolfe sees hope in every golf swing he sees, so it's no wonder he's a two-time winner of Hilton Head Monthly magazine's "Golf Professional of the Year" honor. Wolfe's leadership also led to a Customer Gold Service Star in 2007.
THE RIGHT STUFF: New Drivers Hit the Course for Spring
Contributed by Wes Martin, Merchandise Manager, Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort
Titleist and TaylorMade golf have each launched two new driver models for spring. Titleist 910D2 and 910D3 Drivers offer total performance and precision fit. The innovative SureFit Tour, dual-angle hosel technology allows the loft and lie to be independently adjusted and set for increased distance and improved shot control. The 910D2 is a 460cc pear-shaped driver that produces medium/high launch with medium/low spin. The 910D3 is a 445cc classic-shaped driver that produces medium launch with medium/low spin.
The TaylorMade R11 Drivers can activate the three dimensions to distance: loft, face angle and flight path. The driver allows the loft to adjust with Flight Control Technology (FCT); adjust the face angle with the new Adjustable Sole Plate (ASP); adjust the Center of Gravity (CG) location with Movable Weight Technology (MWT); and the white non-glare crown and black clubface makes for easy alignment.
