Hilton Head Island is no stranger to gourmet cuisine, and a new restaurant at Shelter Cove Harbour will give locals a visitors yet another taste of global fare here in the Lowcountry. Mediterranean Harbour Bar and Grill recently opened its doors next to La Fontana restaurant, adding to the range of worldwide cuisine you can find at Shelter Cove, including Mexican, Italian and now Lebanese.
Unique to Hilton Head Island, Mediterranean Harbour Bar and Grill specializes in Mediterranean and Lebanese cuisine, where most dishes are grilled or baked. Chefs import many ingredients and spices from overseas to heighten flavors and create dishes like Falafel, Tabouleh and Sharwarma. There are menu options for vegans and vegetarians, as well as gluten-free selections.
The newly remodeled Hilton Head restaurant has been renovated both inside and out with new mahogany furniture, hardwood floors and outdoor seating for 24, including a new outdoor bar with views of Shelter Cove Harbour and the perfect place to watch HarbourFest fireworks throughout summer.
Mediterranean Harbour Bar and Grill is located at 13 Harbourside Lane Suite B and is open for lunch and dinner daily from 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m. For more information, visit www.mediterraneanharbour.com or call 843-842-9991.
La Fontana opened this spring at Shelter Cove Harbour, serving brick oven pizzas, pastas, seafood and traditional Neapolitan dishes for both lunch and dinner.
Go ahead… imagine yourself this summer, sipping a fine red wine, enjoying a delicious plate of lobster ravioli or classic homemade lasagna and taking in the beautiful views of the marina at Shelter Cove Harbour. Thanks to a new Hilton Head Italian restaurant, which will make its new home at Shelter Cove, you can!
Welcome La Fontana, an authentic Italian restaurant with two popular locations just up the road in Charleston, which has expanded to the Hilton Head area. Located in the former Little Venice space, which has been completely renovated and features elegant décor, La Fontana’s executive chef and kitchen staff hail direct from Naples, Italy. The eatery specializes in brick oven pizzas, pastas, seafood and traditional Neapolitan dishes, serving lunch and dinner daily.
New to the space is a 24-seat outdoor bar, offering spectacular water and marina views, making it a prime spot – if not one of the BEST spots – to watch HarbourFest this summer. The restaurant also plans to offer live music on select evenings throughout the year.
On the menu, you’ll find a variety of delectable selections, including Veal Piccata, Veal Marsala, Calamari, Pasta Fagioli, Lobster Ravioli, Filet Mignon, calzones and more. And Chef Gary Langevin promises that if you can’t find your favorite Italian dish on the menu, his staff will go the distance to deliver!
Entrees range in price from $10-$38, with separate lunch and dinner menus. There’s also an extensive wine list with red and white wines by the glass and bottle, which are artfully paired with dishes.
“When you have an Italian restaurant, you should have Italians cooking,” says Chef Gary. “We have a good Italian palate and use the best ingredients we can find, both imported from Italy and using local items whenever possible.”
Come try La Fontana Italian Waterfront Grill & Pizzeria during your next Hilton Head vacation! Ciao!

Indulge in tortilla chips smothered in grilled chicken, queso, black bean relish and jalapenos. Sour cream and salsa is served on the side. Tip: Get plenty of napkins!

You can’t come to the Lowcountry without eating shrimp and grits -- it’s a Southern staple! HH Prime, located within the Omni Hotel at Palmetto Dunes, offers a plate full of jumbo shrimp and grits made with smoked cheddar cheese, tasso ham and sherry butter sauce. Delicious!
Ela’s Blu Water Grille, Shelter Cove Harbour – Mama’s Fried Green Tomatoes
Another Southern must-have is fried green tomatoes! Get your fill at Ela’s Blu Water Grille, a Shelter Cove restaurant with a fantastic view. Your tomatoes will come lightly fried and crispy and served with Creole sauce, the owner’s family tradition.

Palmetto Dunes has come up with a new place for families to unwind inside the resort for breakfast, lunch or dinner or for golfers to enjoy a meal after a round or two of golf. Big Jim’s BBQ, Burgers and Pizza overlooking the Robert Trent Jones Oceanfront Course is now open seven days a week for a casual breakfast, lunch or dinner.
In addition to barbecue, burgers and pizza, we also have plenty of Southern dishes, soups, salads, seafood and steak, as well as a kids’ menu. Not only did we tap the culinary talents of Jim Self, one of the developers of Palmetto Dunes, and his Tennessee slaw and barbecue sauce, we took to heart suggestions from our guests for a spot where families can gather for a relaxing meal that won’t bust the budget.
At Big Jim’s, you’ll find big-screen TVs for catching the latest golf tournament, happy hour specials and live entertainment from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays. It’s also a perfect vantage point for Tuesday night fireworks launched all summer long as part of HarbourFest at Shelter Cove Harbour.
Big Jim’s is in the heart of the resort close to the beach, Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center and Hilton Head Outfitters. It’s a perfect spot to dine after a day of swimming, playing tennis, kayaking the lagoon or cruising around on bikes. It adds to the mix of restaurants our guests already enjoy: The Dunes House for lunch and dinner, pre- or post-round meals at Arthur’s Grille and the Fazio Grille at our two other golf courses, or fine dining at Alexander’s.
Join us this summer at Big Jim’s for a relaxing meal on our outdoor deck. You can also call us at 843-785-1165 for take out or catering. See you around!

While we can’t make it summer any earlier and we can’t raise the temperatures to the lovely mild days we’re experiencing here on Hilton Head, we can give you live updates and visuals of the beach every day! We have two webcams set up on the resort, one at The Dunes House and the other at The Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.
If you’re in need of a little golf action on a cold day, check out the webcam at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course. This beautiful course was renovated in 2002 to reshape fairways, trees, greens and bunkers. We were also able to improve the natural draining of the course by linking it to our 11-mile lagoon system. The Jones Course has 11 holes that run by the lagoon and 10th hole has a spectacular view of the ocean! This webcam is sure to make you want to pack up your clubs and head down to Hilton Head.

Hilton Head is full of events, activities and wonderful restaurants, but we’re also only a short drive from historic Bluffton, S.C. The week of October 16-23 will bring the perfect opportunity to visit Hilton Head and check out the Bluffton Arts and Seafood Festival too! In its seventh year, this festival celebrates local seafood, history, art and, most importantly, Southern hospitality.
The 15-minute drive to downtown Bluffton is a great day trip and you can participate in events such as kayak tours, Iron Chef competitions or oyster roasts. Make sure you take your children too, because the Palmetto Animal League will have pets to adopt or play with. If you’re more of the workout junkie, this festival has you covered with a 5K on Saturday, October 22.
The days and evenings will be filled with tons of entertainment from jazz musicians and singers to best selling authors. Your children will be amazed by the juggling work of Ben Matthews and the Carolina Clowns from Charlotte, N.C. Don’t miss Saturday nights’ fireworks spectacular that will be the perfect end to a great event.

Shop for fresh eggs, lettuce and watermelon from the people who actually grew them!
So get out there and take the family to enjoy a wonderful day of excellent food and great times. Let us know what you pick up and what delicious meal you whip up when you get home to your villa!
Visitors to Palmetto Dunes this summer will find a great new option for dining at Shelter Cove Harbour. Ela’s, located directly above the Ship’s Store, serves up fresh seafood and steak with a wonderful Italian twist and amazing water views to boot.
Master Chef Kal Rabadi greets local fishermen daily to decide what will be on his menu that evening. And vinophiles will gush over the extensive wine menu!
They’ve only been open less than a month and already have a celebrity following! In fact, Paula Abdul dined there on her recent Hilton Head trip. But celebs aren’t the only ones giving Ela’s a thumbs up; the locals are giving it great reviews too. Here’s what one of our Facebook friends had this to say about his visit:
“Tried [Ela’s] this past week and it was one of the better meals we've had on hhi in a very long time...still in it's infancy in a few areas, but they've got what it takes...owners are on site every night and the chef is terrific...we're rooting for them to succeed!”
You can find them on Facebook and OpenTable, so make sure to check them out the next time you’re down this way! If you ever need any other recommendations for dining in Hilton Head you can always tweet us @PalmettoDunesSC or check out our Tempt Your Palate blog post from earlier this season!
One of the benefits of staying at Palmetto Dunes is having everything right at your fingertips. The beach, bikes, golf and fishing are all within walking or biking distance from your villa. The same goes for food. Whether you’re craving burgers, burritos or a seafood diner paired with wine, it’s available at Palmetto Dunes or across the street at Shelter Cove Harbour.
