Hilton Head Island offers many unique boutiques and stores for locals and those on vacation, who are looking for something wonderful to take home. With the addition of a new women’s boutique at Shelter Cove Harbour and Marina, there’s yet one more stop on your Hilton Head shopping spree.
Opened by the owner of Christmas on the Harbour, also located at Shelter Cove, Seasons offers stylish resort wear, tops, skirts, maxi dresses, purses, jewelry and other accessories. The inventory will refresh each season to allow shoppers to find new pieces throughout the year. Seasons’ clothing is also selected to be easy to care for and travels well for visitors who will bring their purchases home with them in a suitcase.
Owner Bonnie Kriscovich and April Hinton, store manager, jumped at the opportunity to open a women’s boutique in the waterfront shopping area. “We are going to host trunk shows and really create relationships with our clients,” says Hinton. “I really want people to say ‘I want to go check out what April just got in!’”
You’ll find Seasons located between Christmas on the Harbour and Neptune’s Niche at Shelter Cove. The store opens daily at 10 a.m. with variable closing hours depending on the season. For more information on hours or items in store, please call (843)-842-9911 or email email@example.com.
While you’re shopping, be sure to enjoy lunch or dinner at one of the new restaurants at Shelter Cove Harbour. Mediterranean Harbour Bar & Grill serves homemade Lebanese cuisine, while La Fontana Waterfront Grill & Pizzeria offers Nepalese style cuisine and pizzas. Both Hilton Head restaurants offer outdoor seating and bars with views of Broad Creek.
Last fall, we shared with you that one of our residents and regulars at our Hilton Head golf courses shot his age or better for an amazing 1000th time. Leo Luken, who at the time was 95, came to play golf with us about three times every week. We are saddened to inform you that he passed away in his sleep on August 2 at the age of 96.
Leo made national headlines with his golf feat, showing up on the Golf Channel and PGA.com, as well as in USA Today. You can watch the Golf Channel interview with Leo below:
Leo didn’t even begin playing golf until the age of 45 and didn’t shoot his age for the first time until he was 71. In 2005, he participated in the Shoot Your Age Championship in Florida, which aired on CBS. There he shot his age for the 530th time, actually bettering his age by six shots. Leo won the tournament, besting even Arnold Palmer and Gary Player!
Originally from Indiana, Leo was also an avid baseball player and served as a pitcher in Fort Wayne, Ind. He holds a spot in the Kentucky and Indiana sports halls of fame.
In the Hilton Head Island Packet, our Director of Golf Instruction Doug Weaver said, “As an athlete, he was as intense a competitor as I've ever known. He's the type of guy that if he would have learned golf at 20, he would have been a competitive pro."
“I want people to remember how fortunate we all were to be around him,” said Weaver. “If I played golf with him 20 times in 10 years, it wasn't enough. He had an Arnold Palmer type of charisma."
Three-Ball. Hat Trick. Trifecta. No matter what you call it — if it happens in sports, three of almost anything is reason to celebrate.
We’re excited to share with you that we’ve experienced our own three-peat after the S.C. Board of Directors of the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA) named our George Fazio golf course the 2014 South Carolina Golf Course of the Year. It’s the third and final of our three Hilton Head golf courses to receive this prestigious designation.
In 2003, the Robert Trent Jones oceanfront course was named South Carolina Golf Course of the Year, while the Arthur Hills golf course received the honor in 2009. All three have also been rated four stars or more by Fodor’s Golf Digest Places to Play.
“The award-winning George Fazio course embodies the values we cherish at Palmetto Dunes – offering year-round championship golf in the heart of the South Carolina Lowcountry,” says Brad Marra, vice president of resort operations for Palmetto Dunes. “Many golfers regard it as the island’s most challenging championship course.”
The Fazio golf course demands a combination of long play and precise golf shots. From the 432-yard 1st hole to the 462-yard 18th hole, the Fazio course is the only par-70 golf course on Hilton Head Island. Its long par-4s are beset with bunkers and water hazards. The Fazio course plays 6,239 yards from the middle white tees.
In October, the Fazio Course will be in the running for National Golf Course of the Year.
Everyone’s talking about Rory McIlroy right now with his big win at the British Open. He even got the coveted Sports Illustrated cover, which is rare for any golfer other than Tiger Woods. Here at the Palmetto Dunes Golf Academy, we like to teach golfers how to improve their game and love to take a look at some of the pros’ best techniques.
According to our Director of Golf Instruction Doug Weaver, Rory McIlroy is known for his rotating swing. When you look at the completion of his swing, his right shoulder is over the left leg and past the left shoulder rather than stopping the rotation.
How can you learn that technique? Weaver suggests naturally tossing a ball toward to the left of the target line almost at a right angle to get the feel of it. He says it translates into better compression of the ball, which you’ll hit clean and far. Watch this video of Weaver demonstrating:
In a recent article, Golf Digest also noted McIlroy’s outstanding putting at the British Open where he made 20 birdies and two eagles and one-putted 34 out of 72 greens. The article notes that his putting coach Dave Stockton teaches players to “begin to set their stance while looking out at the line -- not at the ball.” At the Palmetto Dunes Golf Academy, we offer eight hours of putting instruction every week to help you work on that aspect of your game.
The Daily Mail’s Tony Jacklin says, “Rory’s technique is fabulous, showing that golf is nothing to do with size but all about speed and balance and rhythm and skill. It’s magical to watch.”
Weaver offers some tips for putting like McIlroy in this video filmed at the oceanfront 10th hole at the Robert Trent Jones course at Palmetto Dunes:
Of course, if you want to be like Rory, it doesn’t hurt to use Nike clubs and wear Nike apparel, too. The Palmetto Dunes golf pro shop at the Robert Trent Jones golf course is one of only six Nike Golf TTC Concept shops across the U.S. where you can find plenty of Nike gear.
If you want to learn to play like Rory, look no farther than the Palmetto Dunes Golf Academy. Call us at 866-650-4130 to schedule your private lesson today!
One of the top reasons folks venture down our way is for our amazing beaches that stretch along the Atlantic Ocean. On Hilton Head Island, you will find a total of 12 miles of beach, including 3 miles just within Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort alone!
The island is actually just 5 miles wide and shaped like a foot, so it’s easy enough to get from one beach to another in a short span of time. Expect tide levels to change as much as 6-8 feet every six hours, so don’t leave your beach towels too close to the water when you go for a stroll.
Lots of organizations have lauded Hilton Head’s beaches, giving them top honors. USA Today named Hilton Head Island as one of the 10 best Carolina beaches, Parents Magazine selected us the No. 1 beach town in the U.S., and U.S. News & World Report showcased the island as No. 6 on its list of Top 10 Best Beaches for 2013.
The beaches of Hilton Head Island are the perfect spot to engage in a range of activities like biking, running, surfing, paddleboarding, skimboarding, swimming and so much more. Build the perfect sand castle, collect shells and discover amazing sea creatures, just be sure to put back any live ones and fill in your holes and level sandcastles at the end of the day for the safety of our Loggerhead Sea Turtles.
Within Palmetto Dunes’ 3 miles of beaches, you’ll find beautiful Hilton Head vacation homes and villas, as well as the oceanfront Dunes House, which is open to our guests and property owners. You can enjoy lunch, dinner or drinks at the outdoor restaurant, as well as live music during the summer months. At the Dunes House, you’ll also find the Hilton Head Outfitters kiosk where you can enroll in surf camp, rent beach chairs or paddleboards and lots more.
What’s your favorite thing about Hilton Head Island’s many beaches?

There is no shortage of ways to have fun with your friends on Hilton Head Island, but here’s one way you may not have heard about: a Hilton Head party fishing boat. Gather a big group of up to 60 family and friends together and get ready to explore the beautiful marshes and waterways of Broad Creek while competing to reel in the biggest catch.
Available out of Shelter Cove Harbour across from Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, the Captain Hook is a 70-foot boat that can be chartered by groups. Billed as the “largest and most comfortable party fishing boat on Hilton Head Island,” the Captain Hook has a full galley, enclosed cabin, shaded sitting areas for fishing, two clean restrooms and plenty of room to catch some rays on the top deck.
Choose which type of Hilton Head fishing charter you’d like to enjoy aboard Captain Hook, including inshore shark fishing, offshore wreck fishing or night shark fishing with HarbourFest fireworks on Tuesday nights. The trips range from 3 to 5 1/2 hours and start at $53/person and $43/person for children 12 and younger for a three-hour tour. The cost includes bait, tackle, rod and reel rental, instructions and fish cleaning. A fishing license is not required.
Plan to bring your own small cooler (beer in cans is allowed) or purchase food on the boat, including hot dogs, pizza, cheeseburgers, candy, beer, water and soda. The food bar is cash only. You can also buy T-shirts onboard as a souvenir of your trip! Plan to wear shorts or long pants, a T-shirt, swimsuit, jacket, hat, and sneakers or boat shoes. No flip flops, please.
To schedule your Hilton Head party fishing charter, give us a call at 843-785-1700. Have a blast!
Wondering how you can stay in shape during your Hilton Head Island vacation? It’s a breeze! Here are 5 fantastic ways to stay fit on Hilton Head Island:
1) Run on the beach – Do you regularly run your neighborhood at home or perhaps a local park? On Hilton Head Island, we’ve got an even better view: the Atlantic Ocean! Head out in the morning before it heats up and keep your eye out for dolphins. You won’t even realize you’re out of breath!

You can even try yoga on a stand up paddleboard with classes offered by Outside Hilton Head.
4) Go surfing – If you don’t know how to surf, attend our 90-minute Surf Camp offered Monday through Friday during the summer to learn the basics. Then rent a board from Hilton Head Outfitters and hang 10!
5) Play tennis – Tennis is a great cardio workout and we offer guests who book their Hilton Head vacation rentals through us two hours of free tennis court time daily. If that’s not quite enough of a workout for you, try our Hilton Head cardio tennis class for a real heart-pumping workout.

Do you get competitive when it comes to golf? We’ve got just the event for you: our 1st annual Palmetto Dunes Summer Golf Series.
The tournament will run three Saturdays in July, one Saturday at each course, with prizes and bragging rights at stake.
The format will be a shotgun start with a four-man team scramble and team handicap at 20%. The first two tournaments are independent of the championship, and the top two teams from each of the first two tournaments will be re-handicapped based on their scores.
The top two teams will be competing for the Series Grand Championship at the Robert Trent Jones golf course where six teams will be playing to be the grand champions. The rest of the teams will be competing as they did in the first two events at the Arthur Hills golf course and the George Fazio golf course.

Planning to be on Hilton Head Island on the Fourth of July? Then you don’t want to miss the biggest – and we think prettiest – display of fireworks on the island at Shelter Cove Harbour!
Before fireworks light up the night sky over Broad Creek at dusk, our beloved entertainer and musician Shannon Tanner, who has been playing at HarbourFest at Shelter Cove Harbour for 26 years, will perform another not-to-miss show. Tanner will host two performances at both 6:30 and 8 p.m. on July 4, so get your dancing shoes on and your singing voice ready to enjoy songs like “My Hair Had a Party Last Night” and “Purple People Eater.”
Because our Independence Day celebration is so popular, parking can fill up quickly at Shelter Cove Harbour. Two additional parking lots nearby will be available for July 4th where traffic will be directed. Feel free to leave your car in one of these secure parking lots and hop the free shuttle, which runs all evening, over to Shelter Cove and back.
If you’re staying with us at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, an even better way to get to the fireworks is to ride your bike (Hilton Head Outfitters is happy to help you with bike rentals!) or walk. Just be sure to take the pedestrian access which runs underneath Highway 278 for safety and to avoid traffic. The free Dunes Buggy shuttle will also be running between the resort and Shelter Cove for guests of the resort.
Come early for dinner at one of the many restaurants at Shelter Cove, several of which offer live music and water views. Try the two newest additions: La Fontana Waterfront Grill & Pizza and Mediterranean Harbour Bar & Grill both of which have outdoor seating. You can also shop at all of the great stores and boutiques while waiting for the fun to begin. And don’t forget to snap a selfie with the Statue of Neptune, the world’s largest figurative sundial located right here at Shelter Cove Harbour!
Have a safe and wonderful Fourth and we hope to see you at the fireworks!

If you like to fish, but are looking for an even bigger adventure, try shark fishing. Captain Miles Altman and Bayrunner offer shark fishing charters out of Shelter Cove Marina throughout summer, a great time to hunt for sharks.
Around Hilton Head Island you can find many different types of sharks like Atlantic sharp nose, blacktips, spinners, dusky, lemon, bull and tiger sharks. Captain Miles says that at times in the summer, it’s hard not to catch one! “You haven’t been to Hilton Head until you have caught a shark,” he says.
Captain Miles says sharks can be lots of fun to catch, and kids especially will enjoy the battle and later bragging rights. What kid wouldn’t love to share a picture of his freshly caught shark with all his or her friends?
Blacktips and spinners like to add an aerial aspect to the battle, says Captain Miles, while bulls and tigers offer a brutish slugfest guaranteed to leave you with some sore muscles. Expect to have a bent rod by the time you’re finished!
Check out this video of a huge 10-foot tiger shark caught in Hilton Head after a two-hour fight.
Fishing with Captain Miles is a great experience, as he’s been trolling the waters of the Atlantic for more than 40 years and knows just where to find the best Hilton Head sharks.
The Bayrunner is a 24-foot boat that holds four people for a 3-hour evening shark fishing excursion. Book your shark fishing charter by calling us at 866-650-4130. W can’t wait to see your pictures!

One of the best things about Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort is the opportunity for golfers to experience three 18-hole championship Hilton Head golf courses all at one resort with first tees no more than 5 minutes apart. Designers Robert Trent Jones, George Fazio and Arthur Hills all have established golf courses at our resort and each offers a unique playing experience for the golf lover.
Robert Trent Jones Golf Course
The Jones course is perhaps best known for its oceanfront setting with one of only two oceanfront holes on the entire island. Its layout is immaculate and stunning in its beauty and the view from the famed 10th green is not one that will soon be forgotten (we’ve even had weddings there!). Jones plays away from the clubhouse until it reaches its famed back-to-back par-5s that play out to the ocean. It’s also known to have the most accommodating fairways of the trio of courses, though keep in mind you might lose a ball or two as the course winds its way over the resort’s inland lagoon system.
George Fazio Golf Course
We hear a lot that the Fazio course is the most challenging of our courses. It offers the island’s only par-70 layout, whose long par-4s, elevated greens and deep bunkers will test all facets of your game. Known as a great course for “faders” of the golf ball, the Fazio course features a unique double green at 11 and 16 that gives you a peek at what many experts believe is the toughest finishing stretch of holes on the island. These are a Fantastic Four featuring three par-4s over 400 yards from the white tees and a par-3 just a step less than 190.
Arthur Hills Golf Course
Lastly, you’ll find our Hills course, which is as much a tour of a wildlife sanctuary (keep your eye out for waterfowl and an alligator here or there) as a round of golf with its natural beauty. There are those who say they could play the Hills Course every day and never play it the same way twice with the diversity of strategies presented. PGA Tour star Bryce Molder shot a course-record 60 here while in college, while Tiger Woods took an 8 at the signature 17th, a par-4 that requires a drive and an approach over and around one of the many lagoons on the layout.
At all three courses, you’ll find five sets of tees, including family tees, to create an enjoyable, yet challenging round to players of all skill levels. You’ll also find three different putting surfaces: Champion Bermuda on the Jones Course, shade-tolerant Diamond Zoysia on the Fazio and TifDwarf Bermuda on the Hills Course.
Which of the courses will you take on? Do you dare try all three and 54 holes on one visit?! Let us know if you take the challenge and how you did!
It’s that time of year again! Time for Hilton Head’s famed HarbourFest to return to Shelter Cove Harbour to entertain thousands of visitors to the island once again this summer. Now in its 26th year, you can expect the same fun activities that have made this seasonal celebration a Southern staple for so many years.
As always, Shannon Tanner is back with both new tunes and the old classics that you love. His island-style show is entertaining for young and old, and many parents return with their own children after having watched Shannon for so many years when they were children themselves.
Don’t forget to bring your beanie hat, which Shannon is known for, so he can sign it for yet another year with an inspirational message. Shannon will be performing two shows May 24 & 25 at 6:30 and 8 p.m. and then regularly Monday-Friday at 6:30 and 8 p.m. May 26-August 31.
Cappy the Clown will also return this year Monday through Friday from 6-9 p.m. from May 26 through Labor Day. Enjoy face painting, balloon animals and other fun clown activities! On select HarbourFest nights, there will also be arts and crafts, bouncy houses and more entertainment for families.
Fireworks are one of the hallmarks of HarbourFest with the largest July 4 fireworks show on the island. There will also be fireworks, weather dependent for set up and the show, on the following Tuesdays at dusk: June 17 & 24; July 4, 8, 15, 22 & 29; Aug. 5 & 12. Watch the beautiful show light up the night sky over Broad Creek and Shelter Cove Marina and make family memories for a lifetime.
Also throughout the summer on Thursdays June 19-August 14, Shannon Tanner will perform a special Caribbean-inspired concert called Parrot Palooza. He’ll play classic tunes with his band Shan Tan and the Oyster Reefers.
What part of HarbourFest are you most looking forward to?

If you’ve ever played golf at our Robert Trent Jones golf course, then you probably know Sammy Mulrain. This 97-year-old lover of golf served as the course starter every Thursday for the last 33 years, never missing a shift! How’s that for dedication? Sammy has finally put down his golf clubs, at least as a career, and retired as our starter ranger at 97 years young.
He’s truly beloved by the staff at Palmetto Dunes and by all the golfers who come through our doors year after year. “You don’t come across people like Sammy every day,” says Brad Marra, vice president of Palmetto Dunes. “He was a great guy to have at Palmetto Dunes and an even greater person to know. His is a wonderful story of service and dedication with a lasting impression on all of us.”
Sammy, who was named the 2009 Employee of the Year by the Lowcountry Golf Course Owners Association and recently featured in an article in the Hilton Head Island Packet, is known for his attention to detail, making sure golfers get off on time. A veteran who stormed Normandy in World War II, he’s known for his meticulous efficiency.
He also has a heart for charity and even searches for lost golf balls on his own time, donating them to a local church for their use in fundraising events. Sammy retired to Hilton Head Island in 1978 after a career working for the American Can Company.
When asked about his favorite part of his years at Palmetto Dunes, Sammy says it’s the people and the chance to stay active. In an Island Packet article featuring him several years ago, he said, “That's why I do it at my age, just to talk to people…I try to get them laughing. The Jones course has a hole on the ocean, so I tell them, ‘When you get to the 10th green, don't go swimming or nothing.’”
Matt Ginella, host of Morning Drive on the Golf Channel, mentioned our Robert Trent Jones golf course as one of the best Hilton Head golf courses to play. Watch the segment on Hilton Head here:
According to Palmetto Dunes professional club fitter Rod Thompson, going through a club fitting is a “no brainer.”“It’s like a custom suit,” he says. “A $1,000 suit from Brooks Brothers will fit different than a $100 suit off the rack from Joseph A. Banks.”
Thompson is actually one of an elite group of Plane Truth instructors throughout the nation, meaning that he had to serve an apprenticeship under Jim Hardy of the Plane Truth Golf Institute in Houston, Texas. Thompson has been certified for 10 years and he’s up to a level 2 out of 3.
“I do the fitting and always start with the irons because the ground is going to give me a lot of information,” says Thompson. “Also my eyes will show me the ball flight and my ears are going to tell me how it sounds. A lot of information comes out of a club fitting.”
Thompson feels it’s better to get a person’s swing a little oriented before starting a fitting. He also prefers doing it outside where true ball flight analysis can be calculated. “The tall and short golfers are very likely going to need something,” he says. “Golf clubs right off the rack probably won’t work for them because their bodies aren’t normal in proportion, regardless of their swing shape.”
Thompson, a native of Orchard Lake, Mich., turned professional at the age of 18 and eventually became a head pro at Burning Tree Country Club in Michigan. He started making golf clubs in 1986 while at Kenwood Country Club in Maryland, which is where he honed in on ball flight.
“If I saw that a swing was working but the ball flight told me something different, then that threw up a red flag,” Thompson says. “That’s what got me into fitting. Golf clubs are expensive so it’s important that they fit. I like to say, ‘clubs that fit better hit better,’ and they really do. Women, juniors and seniors in particular usually need fittings and I do the fitting complimentary.”
According to Thompson, it’s all about ball flight and impact. “It’s fun for me,” he says. “But I also know it’s especially fun when you are the person who is getting properly fit!”
Palmetto Dunes offers free club fittings based on availability at the Robert Trent Jones Hilton Head golf course. To schedule your fitting with Thompson or for more information, call 866-650-4130.
When you’re returning a serve in doubles, your main goal should be to keep the person on the other side of the net from returning a winning shot. Brian Kiggans, head golf pro at the Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center, says you should always view the return serve as a set-up shot.
To do this effectively, you need a plan. “You should already know where you are wanting the return to be directed before your opponent serves the ball,” says Kiggans. “You should have a plan on the forehand side and on the backhand side (or the same for both).”
According to Kiggans, you have three main choices when returning:
1) Back to the server
2) Toward the net person
3) Lob over the net person
“For example, if John Doe is serving to me, I have preprogrammed my mind that if the ball comes to my forehand I am going to return crosscourt back to the server. If it comes to my backhand, I am going lob over the net person,” says Kiggans. “This is my plan and I am sticking with it no matter what is happening on the other side of the net. If the serve is really difficult to handle and I can’t execute my plan, I just do my best to get the ball back in play.”
You should also plan the action you’re going to take after the return is made as to whether you are going to the net or staying back. Says Kiggans, “For example, I have planned to return crosscourt if the ball comes to my forehand and follow it to the net if it comes to my backhand. I am going down the line and staying back.”
In conclusion, planning ahead is one of the most important things you can do when returning serve and in life!

It’s hard to believe the much-awaited annual RBC Heritage golf tournament is here and gone once again! We had a great week, despite it being a bit soggy, hosting lots of events at our Robert Trent Jones golf course and enjoying a variety of media coverage associated with the tournament. Mutt Kuchar ended up taking home the Tartan jacket after a thrilling conclusion to the golf tournament!
On Monday, April 14, we had lots of fun with John Maginnes when he hosted his Maginnes on Tap radio show live from the Jones course. Here he is with Brad Marra of Palmetto Dunes:
On Tuesday, April 15, NFL pro-bowler and golf lover Sterling Sharpe visited the Jones course. Sharpe, who was great with fans, especially the kids, signed autographs and in between the rain headed out on the course for some golf demonstrations.
During the week, we also had record apparel sales. It seems everyone was ready for some new spring duds to wear on the green! The ECCO Golf Van really helped spur the sales with their amazing golf footwear.
We were so excited that Matt Ginella, host of Morning Drive on the Golf Channel, mentioned our Robert Trent Jones golf course as one of the best Hilton Head golf courses to play. Watch the segment on Hilton Head here:

While we are sad to see our longtime Harbourmaster Dave Harris retire, we know we’re in good hands with our new Harbourmaster Captain Kyle MacDaniel. Captain Kyle, who holds a great love the ocean and Mother Nature, will be heading up all operations at Shelter Cove Marina, including our many charters who operate out of the marina, the Ship’s Store and Hilton Head marina slip rentals for our customers who boat up and down the Intracoastal Waterway. MacDaniel will also oversee all Hilton Head fishing charters and water activities operations out of Shelter Cove Harbour.
Before joining us at Shelter Cove, Captain Kyle spent time working at some of the top marinas in the country with the last 20 years on the waters of the East Coast. He’s worked on Hilton Head Island, as well as in the Caribbean and the Bahamas.
Most recently, he owned and operated his own company “All Coast Marine, LLC,” which performed marine surveys and custom boat restoration and provided freelance captain work. He’s also served as the harbormaster for Loggerhead Club and Marina in Miami, Fla. Captain Kyle is a certified dive instructor, holds his captain’s license and studied ocean engineering at Florida Atlantic University.
When he’s not on the water for work, you can find him fishing. Captain Kyle, who currently calls Bluffton home, describes himself as an avid fisherman and spear fisherman.
The next time you’re at Shelter Cove Harbour, stop by the marina or the Ship’s Store and welcome the newest member to our team: Captain Kyle!

The weather is warm and sunny here on Hilton Head Island, and our tennis courts are filling up! If you’re looking for the latest fashions to make sure you shine on and off the court, we’ve got them at our 1800 square foot Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center pro shop. Inside, you’ll find all things tennis, including racquets, shoes, accessories, sunglasses and adult and junior apparel. Plus, through the end of April, we’re holding our spring clearance sale with discounts up to 50% off. Here are some of our favorite spring tennis arrivals that will have you looking sharp and at the top of your game:
Tail Activewear has two women’s lines that are just in, one appropriately called “Palmetto Dunes” (we can’t help but love that one!) and one named “Desert Springs.” The Desert Springs line brings to mind desert hues with a pink/purple shade, along with black and white, while the Palmetto Dunes line uses more of a peach hue paired with black and white. Both are available in tops, skirts and dresses. Tail garments are designed to perform well by managing moisture, providing wind and rain protection and minimizing friction and fabric creep.
The new Lucky in Love women’s “Hit the Ice” group is a fun collection of prints and colors, featuring tennis images, mesh overlays and scalloped skorts in shades of slate blue, peach and white.
Suffice it to say that color is in this year on the tennis court! Bolle has two colorful lines of tennis wear for women – Mai Tai and Curacao. The Mai Tai line is punctuated by a bright pink, along with gray and white, while the Curacao group is a bright blue paired with white.
You’ll want to be sure your shoes look as snazzy as your outfit, so consider our new colorful Asics. They come in a rainbow of colors like purple, pink, red and blue.
The men’s Center Court Collection from Fila is also in store with tops, shorts and jackets in bright shades of blazing yellow complemented by black. The Nike’s men’s line for spring features a new shade of lime green and a denim blue. We also have the classic apparel line in blue, black and white, as well as the popular Rafa and Federer hats. We love their plaid shorts, as well!
What’s on your tennis fashion list this spring? Let us help you pick the perfect outfit at the Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center pro shop!

We finally made it to spring break! Say goodbye to the bad winter weather and hello to warm sunny South Carolina skies. If you’re headed down our way for spring break, we’ve got some great suggestions for kids to enjoy here at the resort. From golf to swimming to fishing and more, there’s no time for video games or for getting bored here on Hilton Head Island.
Here’s our list of top spring break activities for kids on the island:
1) Swim -- What child doesn’t love to jump in the water and splash away? We figure that’s probably the first thing they’re going to want to do when they arrive, so we put it first on the list. Depending on the weather, if the ocean waters are a little too cool yet, hit the pool at your Hilton Head vacation rental, some of which are heated, and should be plenty warm in the sun.
2) Ride a bike – Our next suggestion that kids will love is riding their bike. We’re sure they’re already used to it at home and now they’ve got an entirely new area to explore. We recently replaced most of our bike paths, which number 5 miles within the resort alone. Instead of driving your car, ride your bike to the beach, to lunch, to golf, you name it! Get your Hilton Head bike rentals and all the gear you need at Hilton Head Outfitters.
3) Learn a new skill – Palmetto Dunes offers wonderful junior programs for both golf and tennis. Not only will kids and teens stay active and keep their minds firing, they’ll come home from Hilton Head Island proud to show their friends what they’ve learned. Watch these fun videos about our Little Swingers golf class and junior tennis clinics.
4) Explore nature – Nature is all around you on Hilton Head Island from the moss-draped live oak trees and colorful azaleas to shore birds and plentiful fish. Rent double kayaks and put an adult with each child for a peaceful kayak through our calm 11-mile lagoon system. See who can spot the most birds!
5) Reel in a big one – We have lots of great fishing around Palmetto Dunes, including our fair share of “monster” fish. Take a Hilton Head fishing charter on our lagoon and see if you can reel in Elvis, the giant red fish, or head out into the ocean for some exciting shark fishing for the whole family.
6) Go crabbing – This one may surprise you, but crabbing in Hilton Head is one of our favorite activities for families because everyone can get involved. Our charter, the Crabber J, teaches you how to catch a crab and then awards their world-famous Crabber J T-shirt to the person who catches the most!
What do you think your kids will enjoy the most on their Hilton Head Island spring break?
If you still need assistance booking a Hilton Head vacation villa or would like to book any of the above, please contact us at 866-744-7558.
One of the best parts of Palmetto Dunes? Its beauty! And the best way to show that off, besides being here in person, is through photography. That’s why we decided that Pinterest is a great fit for our resort – it allows us to share our beautiful library of photos, which we add to daily, with the crowds that are gathering on Pinterest every day.
After a long dreary winter, it’s a great escape to hop on Pinterest and view pic after pic of warm weather locales, ocean views, sunsets, beach vistas and more. Of course, we’ve loaded plenty of those up for you on our Beach at Palmetto Dunes board on Pinterest.
Are you a tennis fan? Then you’ll “love” our Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center board with all things tennis, including quotes, videos, articles and more.
Be sure to join in all the fun we’re having on Pinterest! Follow our profile and your favorite boards to stay close to the beach all year long.
As we finally – and gratefully – wave goodbye to the weather we all experienced this winter, it’s time to welcome back to the fold our Dunes House restaurant, which is now open (weather permitting) for lunch and dinner for guests of the resort and Palmetto Dunes homeowners.
If you’ve never been to this classic establishment, it’s an absolute must-do when you stay with us here at Palmetto Dunes. Our favorite way to arrive at the Dunes House is by bike (get your Hilton Head bike rentals from our own Hilton Head Outfitters) fresh from a tennis match, a swim at the beach, a round of golf or a kayak through the lagoon. You can also catch the free Dunes Buggy shuttle during the summer months.
Head on in and grab a seat at one of our outdoor tables, all of which come with an oceanfront view, for a quick lunch or dinner until you’re off to your next resort activity. On the menu, you’ll find our specialty fish tacos, as well as peel ‘n eat shrimp, salads, hamburgers and hotdogs, sandwiches, wraps and more. Kids can choose from PB&J, mini cheeseburgers, grilled cheese or turkey sandwiches. The Dunes House also offers a range of drinks from beer and wine to sodas and frozen drinks.
Beginning April 1, live music will be back at the Dunes House on select evenings, including all Mondays and Wednesdays in April. Visit our monthly calendar to see when live music is scheduled.

No one knows Shelter Cove Marina like Dave Harris. When he started working at Shelter Cove Harbour in 1983, it was just an idea in progress. By the time it opened to the public in June of that year, Dave found himself overseeing the marina itself, which at the time was just 5 docks, and later its retail operations and charter tours. Now, more than 30 years later, after watching Shelter Harbour grow into a popular shopping, dining, boating and entertainment destination year round, he’s decided to retire, handing over the reins to Captain Kyle MacDaniel at the end of March.
Affectionately known as Harbourmaster Dave around Shelter Cove, he’s the leader of all operations out of the marina. His fondest memories of his time at Shelter Cove are the people, both those he works with and those who come in and out of the marina every day. “We’ve had some real characters come here throughout the years,” says Harris, also remembering fondly the regulars who dock at the marina every year whom he’s gotten to know over the years.
He’s also indebted to his staff, including his two managers, a married couple, Pam and Tommy Perkins, who’ve worked for him for 20 years. “I’ve been very fortunate with the people I’ve had working with me,” he says. “It’s really gotten to be a family operation and they are wonderful folks to be around. Between Pam and Tommy, all I have to do is pick up the trash and make the coffee.”
He says his favorite times of year are probably spring and fall at the marina. “The weather is just beautiful,” he says. “To step out there in the morning, it’s dead calm and you can see the boats reflected in the water. If you have to go to work, that’s a good setting to go to work in.” He also says he loves how the whole island hums in the summertime.
Before taking the job at Shelter Cove, Dave was in the Marine Corps, and afterward, he and his wife spent four years sailing around the world together before starting their family. While he says he’s not planning to sail the world again in retirement, he does plan to spend some time in his home state of Wyoming where he has a cabin. “I’ll be shaking the salty sea air off and getting some of that mountain crispness,” he says, but there are no plans to stop working. Says Harris, “I may become a brain surgeon or a fry cook, not sure which I’d be better at.”
Those of us here at Palmetto Dune and Shelter Cove are so grateful for Dave’s years of service to our company, literally helping build it from the ground up, and we’ll miss seeing his friendly smiling face over at the marina. Hopefully, that sea air will call him back for a regular visit!
Be sure to also read this recent article by David Lauderdale in the Hilton Head Island Packet recounting Dave’s years with us.
It’s the season again to dance the night away as the sun sets over gorgeous Broad Creek. The popular Music and Taste on the Harbour series returns to Shelter Cove Harbour for two months of great food and entertainment every Thursday.
From 6-9 p.m., each Thursday evening from March 27-May 22, local musicians will perform at Neptune Statue while Shelter Cove restaurants will set up nearby, offering food and drink specials. At the kickoff event, Thursday, March 27, all five Shelter Cove restaurants, including the new La Fontana Waterfront Grill & Pizzeria, San Miguel’s Mexican Cafe, Bistro 17, Ela’s Blu Water Grille and Scott’s Fish Market, will serve light appetizers and offer drink specials as The Headliners perform.
You can also sit down for a lovely dinner at any of the above restaurants, which offer fantastic water views of the harbour along with casual dining featuring outstanding fare. Newest to join Shelter Cove Harbour is La Fontana Waterfront Grill & Pizzeria serving Italian food and offering a brand new outdoor deck and bar. Be sure to wander through all the boutique shops and stroll along the marina during your visit.
For the remaining Thursdays, two Shelter Cove Harbour restaurants will set up in tents near the performance with light appetizers and drink specials for patrons.
The entertainment schedule for Music and Taste on the Harbour is:
All of the events are free and weather permitting. Please note that no coolers or outside food are allowed, and limited seating is available, so you’re encouraged to bring your own chairs. Take a look at this video from a past event to see how much fun it is:
If you’ll be on the island this spring, be sure to plan to spend your Thursday evenings at Shelter Cove Harbour!
Go ahead… imagine yourself this summer, sipping a fine red wine, enjoying a delicious plate of lobster ravioli or classic homemade lasagna and taking in the beautiful views of the marina at Shelter Cove Harbour. Thanks to a new Hilton Head Italian restaurant, which will make its new home at Shelter Cove, you can!
Welcome La Fontana, an authentic Italian restaurant with two popular locations just up the road in Charleston, which has expanded to the Hilton Head area. Located in the former Little Venice space, which has been completely renovated and features elegant décor, La Fontana’s executive chef and kitchen staff hail direct from Naples, Italy. The eatery specializes in brick oven pizzas, pastas, seafood and traditional Neapolitan dishes, serving lunch and dinner daily.
New to the space is a 24-seat outdoor bar, offering spectacular water and marina views, making it a prime spot – if not one of the BEST spots – to watch HarbourFest this summer. The restaurant also plans to offer live music on select evenings throughout the year.
On the menu, you’ll find a variety of delectable selections, including Veal Piccata, Veal Marsala, Calamari, Pasta Fagioli, Lobster Ravioli, Filet Mignon, calzones and more. And Chef Gary Langevin promises that if you can’t find your favorite Italian dish on the menu, his staff will go the distance to deliver!
Entrees range in price from $10-$38, with separate lunch and dinner menus. There’s also an extensive wine list with red and white wines by the glass and bottle, which are artfully paired with dishes.
“When you have an Italian restaurant, you should have Italians cooking,” says Chef Gary. “We have a good Italian palate and use the best ingredients we can find, both imported from Italy and using local items whenever possible.”
Come try La Fontana Italian Waterfront Grill & Pizzeria during your next Hilton Head vacation! Ciao!

When playing a doubles opponent who often lobs the ball, it can be frustrating due to minimal offensive threats and impatience might cause unforced errors. Many times the losing team does not have a good enough offense to overcome the defensive “lobbers.”
There are some tactics to try if you run up against these types of teams. When you get an overhead, don’t try to pound it through them. Attempt softer, shorter angles to move them out of position and force them react to the different pace of the ball. Make sure you are playing overheads when balls are high and volleys if they are low. Too many teams attempt overheads when the ball is not high and they should be playing a volley, which is more accurate.
Not every overhead is meant to be a put away. Mix in a variety of angles and spin. Missed overheads are the number one reason people lose to teams that lob well. Use a drop shot to return a serve or on shorter shots. Hitting deep, powerful shots feeds the frenzy of more lobs. When you do get a volley, try to use more drop or touch around the net, when possible. Hard, firm volleys invite a better lob.
Whenever possible, play to the weaker player or lobber which will frustrate the stronger team member. Try playing your team’s best overhead player, if right-handed, in the ad court or, if lefty, in the deuce court. Anything up the middle will play into that player’s smash return.
>When serving, move your partner further from the net to take away the lob return. Lobbing teams love to do so off the serve. You may choose to play a designed poach off the serve so the server is already covering for their partner, if the return of serve lob is causing problems.
Lastly, don’t take it for granted you are a superior team. These teams are tough to beat. Don’t put too much pressure on yourselves to end points quickly.
Spring is just around the corner and you want to not only be outfitted in style, but with the gear that will most improve your game. New items are arriving daily at our Hilton Head golf pro shops at Palmetto Dunes, many of which are being used by the pros as they head out on the PGA Tour.
Want to play like a pro? Here are some of the highlights of our new golf items:
Breaking its own record of 11, PING earned 15 gold awards in the 2014 Golf Digest March ‘Hot List’, more than any other single brand for the third straight year. At the PGA Tour Farmer’s Insurance Open, for example, eight sets of Ping S55 irons and six sets of I25 irons were in play, along with eight G25 drivers used by both Bubba Watson and Hunter Mahan.
PING Golf was the only company to earn at least one gold award in every category. The I25 and G25 series, both available at our pro shops, were both recognized with the highest honors in the driver, fairway wood, hybrid and iron categories. The new I25, Karsten, S55, G25, and the Tour Gorge wedge, which we also carry, each won gold.
The new Nike Covert 2.0 Drivers are also one of our top picks. As one of only six Nike Golf TTC Concept Shops in the country, you can find the latest and greatest Nike Golf picks at our Robert Trent Jones golf course pro shop.
The Covert 2.0 Drivers are used by all the major Nike players, including Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Nick Watney and Charles Schwartzel. They deliver more forgiving distance, faster ball speed and simple, intuitive customization to meet the swing needs of every golfer. High-Speed Cavity Back technology redistributes weight to the heel and toe, allowing for increased distance and more stability across the face of the driver.
We offer the Nike 360-degree Fitting System for anyone who would like a custom fitting by our club-fitter, Rob Thompson, named one of the country’s top fitters for six years in a row. Call us at 866-744-7558 to schedule your free custom fitting.
Women can head out on the greens in style this spring with our new Annika Paramount collection from Cutter & Buck. Inspired by the legendary golfer Annika Sorenstam, this visionary collection combines cutting-edge technology with ingenious details to fit women who are always on the move.
The collection is designed to be feminine yet sporty, utilizing the latest breakthroughs in fabric. You’ll find it at both the Arthur Hills course pro shop and Robert Trent Jones course pro shop.
Our picks for spring shoes are the ECCO BIOM HYBRIDS, ECCO’s first ever performance hybrid shoe, which marks a major advancement in golf shoe technology. Worn on tour by Fred Couples and dozens of other top players, it’s made from Yak leather, which is naturally soft, durable, smooth and breathable and also treated for weather protection.
The shoes have ECCO’s Natural Motion Technology with flexible midsole arch support that mirrors the foot skeleton, providing excellent support and comfort, as well as their Advanced Hybrid Outsole Technology that provides excellent grip in all conditions.
We also like the ECCO GOLF STREET, which is a golf shoe that doesn’t look like a traditional golf shoe and remains the game’s most popular style! With their first ever hybrid model, the shoe has a superb combination of comfort, convenience, stability and traction and is worn on and off the course by the world’s best players. The shoes are weather resistant and have insoles that wick moisture to keep you dry and comfortable.
Stay tuned as we get in more items for men’s apparel and for summer fashions. Come visit our Hilton Head golf pro shops and get outfitted for warm weather play at our three championship Hilton Head golf courses! Need a tee time? Book it right here.
Position yourself both close to the beach and with an outstanding view of our 11-mile inland lagoon system with 20 Port Tack. This luxury Hilton Head vacation home, which is tucked away on a quiet street, can sleep up to 10 people and has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.

TripAdvisor recently released its 2014 Travelers Choice Awards, which ranked the United States’ best islands. Guess who came in at No. 9? Hilton Head Island! Says TripAdvisor of our beautiful island: “Long known as a golfer's paradise, Hilton Head Island is heaven for any type of sports enthusiast: tennis, volleyball, polo, championship golf on some of the best fairways in the United States.”
And even better, two of Palmetto Dunes’ attractions topped in at Nos. 4 and 5 as top Hilton Head attractions recommended by travelers. Users of the site voted Hilton Head Outfitters, the official bike shop and outfitters of Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, as the No. 4 out of 59 attractions reviewed on Hilton Head with more than 100 reviews. The Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center came in at No. 5 with nearly 70 reviews.
Here’s what a few TripAdvisor users had to say about Hilton Head Outfitters:
“We were staying in Palmetto Dunes and found that this place had the best selection, best prices and best customer service! For no charge, they even delivered all the bikes that we reserved (which we made all the reservations online) and picked them up the day that we left. It really helped us out since we had no way of transporting the bikes ourselves. If you are looking for a bike rental during your stay in Palmetto Dunes, look no further and go here…highly recommended!”
And about the Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center:
“This is a great location for a tennis vacation. There are plenty of courts for play! The clay is well kept and the condition of these courts is far better than those at Kiawah Island Resort! The pro shop is well stocked with lots of great gear! The staff [is] warm and friendly.”
How are the winners selected? The Island winners are determined based on the quality and quantity of the most highly-rated hotels, restaurants and attractions listed on TripAdvisor over a 12-month period. The attractions are ranked based on the number and quality of reviews.
It’s no surprise that several of our services ranked tops for users. In 2013, the resort, our golf courses, The Dunes House and Shelter Cove Marina all received a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor.

We love tennis here at Palmetto Dunes! With some 30,000 people coming through the Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center each year and only closing our doors one day a year – on Christmas – we’re serious about tennis.
World Tennis Day is coming up March 3, and is an initiative of the United States Tennis Association that supports their charitable arm, providing under-resourced youth and people with disabilities through tennis and educational programs. In celebration of this worldwide day of tennis, we thought we’d share with you 10 reasons why Palmetto Dunes is one of the world’s best tennis resorts.
Our Tennis Center has been recognized by Tennis Magazine as the top tennis resort in the Carolinas and one of the 50 greatest tennis resorts since 1975, as well as a top 10 tennis resort by TennisResortsOnline.com and as one of the top tennis resorts in the world by 10Best.com. Here’s 10 reasons why:
1) Depth and variety of programming -- During our busy season March-August, we host 43 adult tennis clinics and 27 junior clinics for all skill levels taught by 25 different tennis professionals every week! Choose from tennis lessons, clinics, cardio tennis, round robins, tournaments and more.
2) Variety of tennis courts – When you play tennis at Palmetto Dunes, choose from 23 clay courts and two Nova ProBounce courts. We also have six courts lighted for night play for those balmy summer evenings.
3) FREE tennis – All guests who book their Hilton Head vacation rentals through Palmetto Dunes receive two complimentary hours of tennis court time each day of their stay.
4) Year-round Tennis Tournaments – For 2014, we are hosting 15 different tennis tournaments February through November. Some are closed tournaments through the USTA, for which you need to qualify and be a USTA member, while others are open to all participants. Tournaments are always open for spectators.
5) Combine tennis AND vacation – Palmetto Dunes offers a number of great Hilton Head tennis packages that allow you to combine your vacation with your love of tennis. Enjoy all the amenities of the resort, including its 3 championship Hilton Head golf courses, 3 miles of beach, Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina, Hilton Head bike rentals, 11-mile inland lagoon and so much more.
6) Amazing Hilton Head tennis pro shop – With 1800 square feet of retail space, our tennis pro shop is the largest on the island, carrying a variety of lines and products, including racquets, shoes, accessories, sunglasses, as well as adult and junior apparel. A complimentary Demo Day is offered every Tuesday March–October where guests can try out all the latest equipment and ask pros their questions.
7) Our staff rocks - “It’s unusual for a tennis staff to have been together for so long,” says Jackie Reynecke, group coordinator of tennis for the resort. “We’re all tennis players at all different levels. Being together as a team, year in and year out, and knowing our guests who return year after year, gives us a special and unique ability to service them.”
8) We’re family friendly – The Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center offers more than 25 junior tennis clinics weekly March through August, and we’ve even completed a shortening of our courts for players 10 and younger per new regulations from the USTA. We also offer adult and junior programs at the same time so the whole family can get tennis instruction at once.
9) We’re just plain fun - We have a daily adult round robin that makes for a fun social competition, as well as a Monday night exhibition March through October, with complimentary beer, wine, lemonade, door prizes and plenty of jokes from our Director of Tennis Instruction Brian Kiggans. Whether you’re joining a group tennis clinic or private lesson, the staff at Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center always makes sure “fun” is a top priority when you’re on their courts.
10) Our instruction is top notch – Twenty-five different tennis professionals, all with years of experience, lead instruction each week during the busy season. They are able to customize to each guests’ playing ability or set up a custom program for a group. Guests can also select up to 6 ½ hours of instructional programming a day, so they can play as much or as little as they want.
Did we convince you to come play tennis with us yet? Whether you’re a newbie to the sport or old pro, there’s something for everyone at the Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center. Come see why we keep winning award after award!

Last week, the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport celebrated in high style as JetBlue landed its first planes at the airport, making the area the latest addition to the airline’s routes. There will now be daily flights coming into and out of Hilton Head Island from New York’s JFK and Boston Logan airports, connecting from many other cities across the country.
The addition of the airline is good news for the Lowcountry, as it adds more options for vacationers coming to the island. Already, JetBlue plans to increase the capacity of the airplanes flying into the area by 50% due to high demand, and other airlines have also lowered costs and added flights and additional seats.
On February 13, the first flights flew into the Savannah-Hilton Head International airport and the area hosted a grand celebration. Local officials and guests enjoyed blue cocktails, visits with “Forrest Gump,” comments from company executives and more. Major media, including representatives from Travel + Leisure, Southern Living, New York Magazine and others flew in for the event. Take a look at our board on Pinterest chronicling the entire event.
The Savannah/Hilton Head area has invested in a marketing effort to lure Northeasterners ready for a warm weather getaway to the Lowcountry area, which includes advertising in major outlets, as well as billboards atop taxis in New York City noting “Hilton Head is in full ‘swing’.”
Palmetto Dunes has created a package for those looking for a great airfare rate to play world-class golf in the Lowcountry. The Blue and Greens package includes a $200 JetBlue gift card per person good toward airfare, as well as 4 days/3 nights in a resort view villa, 2 rounds of golf per person at our beautiful championship Hilton Head golf courses, 3-day Hilton Head bike rentals from Hilton Head Outfitters and 2 hours of complementary tennis court time daily at the Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center.
We’re so excited to have JetBlue in town and hope you are, too! Be sure to check their rates before planning your next Hilton Head vacation to Palmetto Dunes.
Give us a call at 866-744-7558 to book the Blue and Greens package or for any other resort or Hilton Head vacation questions. Fly safe!
Several members of the Palmetto Dunes golf staff recently attended the 61st annual PGA Golf Show in Orlando to check out the latest and greatest in golf gear, apparel, accessories and services. More than 1,000 companies demonstrated their wares to some 41,000 people who attended from 80 different countries. Our team learned a lot and wanted to share their findings and favorites with all the golf lovers who visit Palmetto Dunes!
Doug Weaver, director of golf instruction at the resort, made the rounds at the show, interviewing many of the company reps on the details of their new equipment. He particularly spent time with Nike Golf on their shoes, drivers and balls.
The Lunar Control II shoe, which will be highlighted at this year’s Masters(no apostrophe) by Rory McIlroy, is known for being very lightweight while providing full support using the latest in Nike technology. More from Doug:
Doug also got up to speed on the new Nike Covert 2.0 driver, whose technology is designed to provide more stability, less resistance, straighter ball flights and faster ball speeds. Here is the full interview with Nike:
All of the Nike products from the show will be available at the Robert Trent Jones course pro shop, one of only six Nike Golf Concept Shops in the country.
While at the PGA Show, Doug logged over 30 hours of training with the inspirational Peter Jacobson! Classes focused on one plane and two plane swings, exercise, mental, junior golf and club fitting. Peter is a friend, Ryder Cup Player, Senior Tour Champion and TV commentator. At the age of 48, with his game falling apart, Peter took to a program that revived his game so much so that he became a Ryder Cup Player.
Get these and more tips from Doug with a private lesson, clinic or golf school at the Palmetto Dunes Golf Academy this spring!
Doug also caught up with the Golf Channel’s Michael Breed, host of “The Fix.” He and Doug were PGA tour players together and Doug encouraged Michael to go into modeling. He took Doug’s advice and later combined his love of golf with modeling to become a TV show host.
