8 Reasons You Must Eat at Hilton Head’s Oceanfront Restaurant, The Dunes House

With Palmetto Dunes’ famous oceanfront Dunes House restaurant opening later this month, we wanted to get you excited for your chance to eat at this classic beach location on Hilton Head Island. Here are 8 reasons you don’t want to miss a visit to the Dunes House on your Hilton Head vacation:

      1. You can’t beat the view - The Dunes House is one of a few Hilton Head beachfront restaurants where you can sit outside, enjoy the day and listen to the waves and the activity on the beach. Watch kids fly kites, look for dolphins in the surf and pet the dogs who join their owners for a bite.
      2. It’s only for Palmetto Dunes’ guests and property owners - Because it’s only open to guests of the resort and property owners, you won’t have to haggle with the rest of the island for a seat. While it is busy during summer months, it’s worth the wait. It’s also a good idea to come during non-peak hours between lunch and dinner during busier seasons.
      3. The fish tacos rock - While you’re on Hilton Head Island, you should enjoy your fill of seafood and the Dunes House is known for their yummy fish tacos. Order them up with your favorite drink and you’ll have all the fuel you need to finish your day at the beach.
      4. You can ride your bike - Forget trying to find a parking space at the Dunes House. Simply hop on your Hilton Head bike rental from Hilton Head Outfitters and enjoy a leisurely ride from anywhere within the resort. Park your bike right up front and it’ll be ready to take you to the beach, to the tennis courts, to the golf courses -- or wherever you’re headed next.
      5. All the cool kids are there - The Dunes House is a longtime Palmetto Dunes tradition for meeting up with friends and family. Teens will enjoy hanging out and even meeting new friends. It’s always a lively atmosphere and everyone’s in a good mood because they’re at the beach!
      6. You can go swimming immediately after - Wear your cover-up over your swimsuit and dash directly to the beach after lunch or dinner (waiting 30 minutes for your food to digest, of course :)). Where else can you dine and swim?!
      7. They have music - On select evenings during spring and summer, the Dunes House features live music just to make your experience on the beach even better.
      8. You’ll save - Guests of the resort get discounts on every meal at the Dunes House - cha ching!

Have we convinced you that the Dunes House should be your first stop when you arrive on Hilton Head Island? Be sure to check out our resort calendar for upcoming events.

10 Places to Kiss at Hilton Head Island’s Palmetto Dunes

Best Places to Kiss on Hilton Head

While any beach is romantic, we think there’s something extra special here on the South Carolina coast of Hilton Head Island when it comes to lighting a spark, especially here within our beautiful beach resort. We’ve collected our top 10 places to steal a smooch on your next visit to Palmetto Dunes:

      1. Robert Trent Jones Course No. 10 - With its fantastic ocean views this is a great place to pucker up, especially if you or your sweetheart beat par! This gorgeous spot is also a popular location to get engaged and say I do!

      2. Neptune Statue - An iconic landmark on Hilton Head Island, we highly recommend getting a selfie of the pair of you in a liplock while this famous figurative sundial stands in the background.

      3. In a canoe - Head out on our peaceful 11-mile inland lagoon system for some precious alone time together by renting a canoe from Hilton Head Outfitters. Marvel at the natural beauty of the lowcountry and lean in for a kiss just when it couldn’t get any quieter.

      4. On a sunset dinner cruise - Hop aboard a romantic Hilton Head sunset dinner cruise leaving from Shelter Cove Harbour and enjoy a gourmet meal as the sun sets over the marsh. That’s sure to start some loving feelings!

      5. Ocean view villa - Rent one of our Hilton Head ocean view villas and prepare a romantic dinner for two (Dunes Catering can assist if you need a little help in this department). Then step out on to the balcony as the winds sweeps through your hair to make your move!

      6. At the beach - It’s tough to beat kissing at the beach with the sound of the ocean waves crashing in the background. Kick off your shoes and head for a barefoot walk down our 3-mile stretch of beach. Why not make it a game and kiss every time you see a dolphin?! Collect some shells as mementos of your romantic vacation.

      7. On the tennis court - Why not show your “love” during a tennis match? We recommend leaning in over the net at one of our 26 Hilton Head tennis courts. Try a night game with our lighted courts to kick up the romance level.

      8. Over dinner at the Dunes House - Is there a more romantic place to dine than overlooking the beach? Share a shrimp cocktail, some fish tacos and cheer your relationship over some frozen drinks.

      9. Dinner with a harbour view - Second only to the beach in romantic dinner options is a view of the harbour at Shelter Cove. Choose from several gourmet restaurants with a water view at Shelter Cove Harbour like ELA’s Blu Water Grille and Bistro 17.

      10. On a bike for two - Get some fresh air with your amour by renting a tandem bike from Hilton Head Outfitters. You’ll have to work together as you pedal throughout the resort as you cruise beneath palm trees and sweeping live oaks with hanging moss.

Have you stolen a smooch on the island? Got any secret spots?

To plan a romantic getaway to Hilton Head Island, consider our romance packages that combine accommodations, activities and spa services. Want to customize a vacation just for you and your sweetheart? Give us a call at 866-650-4130 and we’ll get it all set up!

5 Creative Ideas for your Hilton Head Beach Wedding

Did you get engaged over the holidays? Then you’re embarking on the exciting wedding planning process. Here at Palmetto Dunes, we host many Hilton Head beach weddings every year and love to help our brides and grooms plan for their special day.

We’ve compiled some really fun and creative beach wedding ideas we’ve come across on Pinterest to help inspire you as you begin planning your nuptials.

      Beach-Themed Cookies

TrendHunter shares these adorable beach-themed cookies, which can be served at a beach wedding, bridal shower or rehearsal dinner. We absolutely love the tiny flip-flops next to the beach waves -- all created with icing!

      Seashell Cupcakes

Another cute and probably easier-to-make dessert to serve at your beach wedding are these seashell cupcakes. Simply use blue icing topped with a small seashell.

      Handprint Photo

Here’s a clever photo you can ask your wedding photographer to shoot on the big day. The bride and groom literally “make their mark” in the sand with their handprints to capture on camera. For added fun, place your wedding ring on the wedding fingerprint in the sand -- just don’t lose them!

      Flip-Flop Basket

Invite your guests “kick off their heels” and don some sand-appropriate footwear in the form of flip-flops with this cute basket. Place near the dance floor or in front of the aisle.

      Mason Jar Decor

This idea comes from a wedding we hosted at the oceanfront Dunes House. This simple mason jar with wedding flowers hangs from a simple garden hook at the entrance to the ceremony. Simple, but elegant!

Be sure to follow our Hilton Head Weddings board on Pinterest for even more great beach wedding ideas.

TripAdvisor Users Give Hilton Head Island and Palmetto Dunes Activities Top Props

TripAdvisor recently released its 2014 Travelers Choice Awards, which ranked the United States’ best islands. Guess who came in at No. 9? Hilton Head Island! Says TripAdvisor of our beautiful island: “Long known as a golfer's paradise, Hilton Head Island is heaven for any type of sports enthusiast: tennis, volleyball, polo, championship golf on some of the best fairways in the United States.”

And even better, two of Palmetto Dunes’ attractions topped in at Nos. 4 and 5 as top Hilton Head attractions recommended by travelers. Users of the site voted Hilton Head Outfitters, the official bike shop and outfitters of Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, as the No. 4 out of 59 attractions reviewed on Hilton Head with more than 100 reviews. The Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center came in at No. 5 with nearly 70 reviews.

Here’s what a few TripAdvisor users had to say about Hilton Head Outfitters:

“We were staying in Palmetto Dunes and found that this place had the best selection, best prices and best customer service! For no charge, they even delivered all the bikes that we reserved (which we made all the reservations online) and picked them up the day that we left. It really helped us out since we had no way of transporting the bikes ourselves. If you are looking for a bike rental during your stay in Palmetto Dunes, look no further and go here…highly recommended!”

And about the Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center:

“This is a great location for a tennis vacation. There are plenty of courts for play! The clay is well kept and the condition of these courts is far better than those at Kiawah Island Resort! The pro shop is well stocked with lots of great gear! The staff [is] warm and friendly.”

How are the winners selected? The Island winners are determined based on the quality and quantity of the most highly-rated hotels, restaurants and attractions listed on TripAdvisor over a 12-month period. The attractions are ranked based on the number and quality of reviews.

It’s no surprise that several of our services ranked tops for users. In 2013, the resort, our golf courses, The Dunes House and Shelter Cove Marina all received a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor.

Come visit Hilton Head Island for yourself and stay at Palmetto Dunes to see what all the fuss is about! Just give us a call at 866-744-7558 or visit www.palmettodunes.com.
