5 Reasons for Families to “Break” to the Beach at Hilton Head’s Palmetto Dunes This Spring

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.  – Families traveling for spring break this year need more than just one good reason to choose a destination. Palmetto Dunes, an oceanfront resort on Hilton Head Island that’s been serving families since the 1970’s, offers five great reasons for families to head south to the Lowcountry resort this March or April.

1)      Value – Palmetto Dunes is helping families get the most value for their money with two vacation packages designed to keep all ages entertained while saving families off regular rates. They include:

  • Ultimate Family Package - Starts at $66 per person, per night based on four person occupancy at a savings of up to $950, which is nearly half off regular rates.

    • Nature or dolphin cruise for four
    • 2-hour single kayak rentals for four
    • 7-day bike rentals for four

    • 1 day bike rental per person
    • 2-hour single kayak rental to paddle along the resort's peaceful, nature-filled 11-mile inland lagoon
    • 2 hours tennis court time daily
    • 1 massage at local spa
    • Facial treatment or body scrub at spa
    • Best rates on Palmetto Dunes golf and all other resort activities and amenities

2)      Boredom Busters – Parents can rest assured they won’t hear any complaints from their kids about being bored at Palmetto Dunes. The resort, which offers 2,000 acres of space including 3 miles of beachfront, offers a full range of activities for all ages. Families can rent bikes, ride the beach and pedal the 50 miles of paved bike paths on the island, take in a round of golf at one of the resort’s three championship courses, play a round of tennis on the resort’s 25 courts or kayak the resort’s peaceful 11-mile inland lagoon. Other activities include stand-up paddleboarding, surfing, fishing charters, canoeing, crabbing, dolphin tours, and of course, relaxing at the beach.

3)      A Golfer’s Paradise Palmetto Dunes is known by many as a golf resort because of its variety of opportunities to play at its three championship courses. With numerous accolades, including being named among the top 25 best family golf resorts by a top-ranked golf publication and Fodor’s/Golf Digest bestowing four stars on all three courses, each provides a different playing experience. Among the most memorable holes is the oceanfront Par-5 10th on the Robert Trent Jones course, one of only two oceanfront holes on the island. Family opportunities are plentiful with kids younger than 12 able to play free with an adult and spring break junior golf clinics, family golf school, and Little Swingers classes for ages 3-7. Additionally, Palmetto Dunes has one of the only courses on the island with Junior Tees.

4)      Plenty of Sunshine – Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort can be a welcome respite from the cold, sleet and snow northerners have experienced all winter. Hilton Head Island boasts an average high of 68 in March and 76 in April, great weather to get outdoors and enjoy all of the resort’s activities before the heat of summer. The resort also offers two very popular outdoor and kid-friendly dining options, including the beachfront Dunes House open to resort guests and the new Big Jim’s BBQ, Burgers & Pizza, a restaurant at the resort’s oceanfront Robert Trent Jones golf course.

5)      New Music on the Harbour Series – New this year, Shelter Cove Harbour, located just across from the resort, will be hosting a special Music on the Harbour live music series on Thursday evenings in April and May, featuring several local bands. In addition to family-friendly live music, the shops and restaurants at Shelter Cove Harbour will offer specials, giving families an entertaining way to spend one of their spring break evenings.
