Palmetto Dunes Hires Chris Mark as Executive Chef
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (December 7, 2007) - Chris Mark, a seasoned professional with extensive culinary experience, has been named executive chef at Palmetto Dunes Resort. As executive chef, Mark is responsible for overseeing dining and catering at Palmetto Dunes Resort, including food preparation for meetings, luncheons, cocktail parties, weddings and private events.
"Chris brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new position, as well as genuine passion for fine cuisine," said Bruce G. Sauers, food and beverage director for Palmetto Dunes Resort. Mark is an award-winning chef with more than 13 years of experience. He has won numerous gold, silver and bronze medals at the American Culinary Federation's Hot Food and Cold Food Competitions and was one of only 24 chefs nationwide to advance to the second round of competition in the 2000 Culinary Olympics.
Prior to joining Palmetto Dunes, Mark served as the director of food and beverage at The Palms at Mt. Pleasant in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. and as the clubhouse manager at Sea Pines Country Club on Hilton Head Island, S.C.
From 1995 to 2001, he worked as sous chef, lead chef, saucier chef and apprentice chef at The Greenbrier Hotel in Sulphur Springs, W.Va., where he was ultimately responsible for all food operations at the prestigious Sam Snead's Golf Club. The Greenbrier is an award-winning resort which has won a number of awards for outstanding cuisine.
From 2001 to 2003, he joined Greenwood Development Corporation, the parent firm of Palmetto Dunes Resort, as its executive chef when Greenwood assumed responsibility for food operations at Palmetto Dunes Resort and Palmetto Hall.
Originally from Marysville, Penn., Mark matriculated in culinary arts at Harrisburg Area Community College in Harrisburg, Penn., then was accepted in the highly acclaimed three-year apprenticeship program at the award-wining Greenbrier Hotel.
