You love to relax.
A vacation for you is a chance to wind down and get away from it all. You’re not a big stickler for an itinerary, preferring to just relax and go with the flow. Luckily for you, there are plenty of easy ways to unwind at Palmetto Dunes! Of course, we’ve got three miles of stunning Hilton Head beach for you to enjoy, and with beach rentals like chairs and umbrellas available at Hilton Head Outfitters, you’ll be chilling at the beach in style. When you’re booking your vacation rental, look for one with a pool so you can lounge just outside your door, or a patio perfect for sipping a cup of coffee and soaking in the view. Hilton Head Island’s characteristic laidback, no-fuss lifestyle is perfect for you!
If you answered mostly Bs:
You’re a foodie.
There’s no shame in admitting it—you love food! Travel is a way for you to discover new dishes and flavors, and maybe even pick up some recipes to try on your own. Get excited, fellow foodie, because here in Lowcountry, we love food too. Try Southern Classics like fried chicken sliders and barbecue at Big Jim’s, or fried chicken at The General Store. Treat yourself to something a bit more decadent and upscale with an impeccable meal at Alexander’s Restaurant or ELA’s. Take advantage of the incredible seafood Hilton Head has to offer at Scott’s Fish Market—you can even sample authentic French pastries at The Hilton Head Social Bakery! If you’re really looking for a culinary treat, consider timing your stay with one of our food events, like the Hilton Head Island Seafood Festival in February, or The Dunes House’s annual Oyster Roast in the fall.
If you answered mostly Cs:
You love to stay active.
Whether at home or on vacation, you love to keep moving. At Palmetto Dunes, we’ve got plenty of ways for you to enjoy what you love best: having fun while staying fit. Make sure you grab a bike rental from Hilton Head Outfitters (if you order in advance, they’ll even have it waiting for you at your vacation rental!). From there, it’s up to you to choose the activity of the day. Sign up for a tennis lesson or round robin tournament—or try your hand at Pickleball! Rent a kayak or stand-up paddleboard to explore Hilton Head’s stunning natural beauty while giving your arms and core a great workout. Our three-mile beach makes for a perfect morning jog, and of course, we can’t forget golf! Rent one of our Golf Bikes to add some cardio to your game.
If you answered mostly Ds:
You’re an explorer.
You love to see the sights, discover new places, and try new experiences. You’ll love strolling Shelter Cove Harbour and Marina, and the various excursions on offer there are perfect for you! Set out in search of marine life on a dolphin cruise or sail the open waters on a sailboat charter. You can even embark on a fishing expedition that not only lets you explore Hilton Head by water, but you might just reel in the catch of the day! If you prefer to explore on your own, rent a canoe from Hilton Head Outfitters and spend an afternoon navigating Palmetto Dunes lagoon.
For travel lovers, the start of a new year can mean the exciting welcoming of new travel plans and adventures. We’ve compiled a list of New Year’s resolutions for you to try in 2018, to make this your best travel year yet!
1. Try New Things
With our hectic lives and busy daily routines, it can be easy to forget to change things up. But what better time is there to try something new than while on vacation? Whether it’s a new dish you’ve never thought of trying, surfing lessons, or Pickleball, add something new to your travel itinerary in 2018!
2. Live Like a Local
Wherever you choose to travel in the New Year, make it your goal to act like a local. Try a local cuisine (like a Lowcountry meal of Shrimp & Grits on Hilton Head Island at Alexander's Restaurant), explore new areas you may not have read about in your guidebook. Speak to the people you’re staying with about where to go, or strike up a conversation with locals when you’re out and about. Who knows what interesting, hidden gems you can discover!
3. Take Time to Unwind
Sometimes when planning a vacation, we try to squeeze in as much as we possibly can. To get the most out of your vacation days, make sure to schedule some time to relax and unwind. Luckily, Palmetto Dunes has three miles of idyllic, pristine beachfront, so grab your beach towel, sunscreen, and a good book, and head to the beach to relax, soak up the sun, and enjoy some of the little pleasures life has to offer.
4. Get Active
There are so many fun activities at Palmetto Dunes that keep you active while still allowing you to enjoy and explore a new place! Whether it’s biking across the island, taking part in water sports like kayaking and water skiing, taking a swing at golf, or even a nice stroll along the beach at sunset, there’s something for everyone. So get out there, release some endorphins, and experience your vacation through a more active mindset!
5. Spend Time with Loved Ones
Whether you’re traveling with friends, family, or a significant other, there’s no better time to catch up and enjoy time with a loved one than while on vacation. Whether it’s taking part in all of the family-oriented activities Palmetto Dunes has to offer, or going out for a relaxing, romantic dinner, make sure to make time for loved ones and enjoy the company they have to offer in the upcoming New Year.
6. Take Risks
Do something risky and outside of your comfort zone. Everyone has different boundaries, so choose something that feels a bit daring to you! Some options could include a speedy CraigCat boating adventure or shark fishing.
7. Create & Document Your Memories
When we’re living in the moment and enjoying ourselves, we sometimes don’t stop to think about all the wonderful memories we’re creating. Document your family’s vacation by taking lots of photos, or perhaps even jotting things down in a travel journal. These will then become memories you can share with others that will last a lifetime!
What are some of your New Year’s resolutions? Regardless of your goals, we can’t wait to welcome you to Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort for a memorable Hilton Head Island vacation!
What a year it’s been! As 2017 comes to a close, we’re looking back on all of the fun we’ve shared throughout the year. From action-packed itineraries to Harbourfest adventures, tennis tournaments to #PDSummer fun, it’s been a blast!
To wrap up the year, we’ve gathered some of our most popular Palmetto Dunes photos to share. A lot of these incredible photos were taken by guests like you! We just love seeing Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort through your eyes. Which one is your favorite?
Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort is on three miles of breathtaking Hilton Head beach, and it makes for a beautiful picture day or night.
We can’t decide what we love more, waking up to watch the sunrise at Palmetto Dunes Beach, or stopping by to see the sunset. One thing we know for sure is that we love the stunning photos taken by guests like you!

It’s no secret that the best way to get around at Palmetto Dunes is by bike. Hilton Head Outfitters offers bikes of all sizes so the whole family can get out and explore. Based on these photos it looks like everyone’s favorite cycling destination is the beach!

Speaking of Hilton Head Outfitters, this photo was another favorite this year. It’s always a great feeling when the Outfitters’ dock comes into view after a paddle on the Palmetto Dunes Lagoon.
We can’t forget about all of the incredible shops, restaurants, and views at Shelter Cove Harbour and Marina! A sunset stroll after a meal at Bistro 17 or a drink at Scott’s or San Miguel’s is the perfect way to end a day at Palmetto Dunes, and we love how this photo captures the calming beauty of the marina.

We’ve said it before and we’ve said it again—there’s nothing quite like a Hilton Head sunset! Did you know that you can take a sunset cruise from Shelter Cove Marina? It’s a wonderful way to get out on the harbor and experience unobstructed views of the stunning Lowcountry sky.

Now, this is a familiar sight! Happy Holidays from all of us at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort—even Neptune! We can’t wait to welcome you in the New Year and see what adventures 2018 will bring.
It’s that time of year again! Time to start searching for the perfect gift to put a smile on the faces of your loved ones. Luckily for you, we at Palmetto Dunes are shopping pros! Not only do we have a wonderful selection of stores at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina, the helpful staff at our tennis and golf pro shops are happy to help you choose a thoughtful and memorable gift.
For the golfer in your life, our very own Doug Weaver put together his wish list, The 12 Golf Gifts of Christmas:
1. Personalized Titleist golf balls and bag tags. Titleist is one of the top names in golf for a reason. Their golf balls are specially formulated and designed to deliver the performance you need with every shot.
2. Palmetto Dunes hats. With plenty of variety and styles, there’s a logoed hat for every one! Plus, you can buy one get one half off at Palmetto Dunes Pro Shops.
3. Pre-paid rounds of golf. Did you know that you could make a tee time and pre-pay it? You can also get a gift card for so the golfer on your list can choose which of our three beautiful courses to play.
4. Dress for success. So maybe your loved one can’t play like Jordan Speith or Lexi Thompson. That doesn’t mean he or she can’t dress like a pro! Send your golfer onto the green dressed to impress with golf wear by Under Armour, Peter Millar, Polo RLX, Nike, and more!
5. A lesson with a nurturing PGA Professional will allow your golfer to create memories and get better at a game they love. Give them the know-how they need to play better golf. Private lessons include a digital video analysis, emailed notes, personalized golf instruction, and practice before and after. If you have questions, please call the Director of the Palmetto Dunes Golf Academy, Doug Weaver, at 843-338-9598.
6. Protect your loved-one’s clubs with attractive headcovers. Some of our favorites are PRG leather embroidered headcovers and Just 4 Golf covers. Visit our Pro Shops to find the perfect set.
7. Whether you pick a lightweight carry bag or larger staff bag, one thing is for sure; a golf bag makes a perfect gift for the golfer in your life! Visit our online shop and have your golfer looking like a true professional. PLUS receive 20% everything in our online store now and ALWAYS free shipping!
8. A well-fitted putter can help your golfer lower his or her score. We love the Odyssey Putters like the Tour players use because they utilize leading golf technology and can be matched to the player.
10. For the times when your golfer can’t get out on the course, a must-have golf book is just the thing! Harvey Penick’s Little Red Book: Lessons and Teachings from a Lifetime in Golf is a classic pick that will help your golfer improve his or her game.
11. Custom Clubs. Did you know that SwingFit at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Palmetto Dunes is the only clubfitter in Hilton Head Island to be recognizes on Golf Digest’s List of 100 Best Clubfitters? Book your golfer in with SwingFit and their custom-fitted clubs will have them swinging better and scoring lower in 2018!
12. Someone to play with! The best medicine is fresh air and time playing on the course with a professional. Play with a pro and learn as you go. It’s kind of like going fishing in the local salt marshes or ocean — a guide is necessary, otherwise it is blind luck to catch a fish. Studies prove that many people quit golf or reduce their play significantly because they are frustrated, not successful, or not having fun. Awaken your golfer’s love of the game with time with a coach, who reminds them how to enjoy the game.
Golf is a game for a lifetime. If you need any help choosing that special golf gift, or if you’re in need of golfing advice, call our pro shop at 843-785-1155. We will help you find a gift that will be cherished for many years and we LOVE special orders!

October was an exceptional month on the links and on one recent chilly, mid-November day, Palmetto Dunes Director of Golf Clark Sinclair said he had nearly 160 golfers. This included one group of 90 Canadians staying for a month, who have spread the word about Palmetto Dunes through the years and who enjoy traveling in a pack.
“We've got a lot of northerners and Canadians from all provinces,” said Sinclair.
Sinclair said the three courses are in tip-top shape. “The Zoysia greens are in near perfect condition during the winter,” he said. “We over-seeded the Hills and Jones Courses, but did not over-seed the Fazio Course.”
Sinclair said now that the weather has started to cool, Palmetto Dunes popular “golf bikes” are being used more than during the heat of the summer. And, for the particularly health-conscious, the courses allow golfers to walk the courses year-round. Finally, Sinclair said, the four-player golf carts offered by Palmetto Dunes were “super popular” during the spring and summer months, particularly for families who wanted to tour the links together.
Speaking of the holiday spirit, Visage Mobile Golf Information System will be added to the Hills Course fleet of golf carts in December, meaning all three golf courses will now enjoy this cutting-edge technology that serves as “fleet diagnostician, marshal, ranger, concierge, caddie, marketing assistant, security officer and goodwill ambassador.”
Want to give your special golfer a Christmas present they will remember forever? Give them a visit to SwingFit, the expert club-fitting service at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort.. SwingFit is headed by Chris Wycoff, who has been once again named one of Golf Digest magazine’s "Top 100 Club Fitters” in America for 2017-2018. “Swing Fit is doing very well with steady traffic most of the time,” Sinclair said. “We enjoy having this offering because we are a full-service resort and we are offering golfers the ultimate in club-fitting precision.”
Sinclair added that the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour will be coming to the Fazio Course Nov. 18-19 for the Hilton Head Junior Challenge, with players from up and down the east coast including plenty of local, Hilton Head-area talent.

Oysters are practically a way of life in the Lowcountry! Whether you’re eating them on the half shell, à la Alexander’s, or roasted, there’s no denying that they’re simply delicious. There’s a saying here on Hilton Head Island that any month that contains the letter “r” is oyster season, which means we’re right in the thick of it!
Our local oysters are salty and sweet; with a unique flavor you won’t find anywhere else. Make sure to sample some local oysters the next time you’re at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, and in the meantime, read up on how to shuck an oyster like a pro!
1. Place the oyster curved-side down and find the hinge where the top and bottom shell meet.
2. Wedge your oyster knife into the hinge at a 45-degree angle by wiggling it back and forth and pushing it in until it feels “stuck.” Then continue to wiggle and rotate the knife back and forth until the oyster releases and its shell pops open.
3. Carefully run the oyster knife along the top of the shell to cut the muscle and loosen the meat.
4. Next, run the knife gently underneath the oyster, taking care not to cut the oyster or spill too much of its juice, to release it from the bottom of the shell and clear out any debris or shell fragments.
5. Add your topping of choice, be it a squeeze of lemon or a dash of hot sauce, and enjoy!
What’s your favorite way to eat oysters? What do you think is the best oyster dish on Hilton Head Island? Tell us! And don’t forget to share photos of all of your Hilton Head adventures with the hashtag #PalmettoDunes.
