Five Ways to Have a Social Media Friendly Wedding

    socialmediawedding-1.jpg

Social media has become part of our everyday lives, so it's bound to be a part of the biggest day of your life too – your wedding! There are plenty of social media tools and tricks to help you navigate your nuptials, from wedding planning to documenting the big day! So listen up social media savvy brides and grooms, here are five ways to use social media when saying ‘I do’ at Palmetto Dunes:

    Get inspired

The days of carrying around a stack of wedding magazines are gone. Nowadays brides-to-be are turning to Pinterest to gain inspiration, learn about the latest in wedding trends, and find DIY ideas. From the ring to the dress to the decor, Pinterest provides a seemingly infinite collection of wedding ideas and allows brides to keep track of their favorite finds. For our top beach wedding ideas, visit the Hilton Head Weddings Pinterest board!

    Connect with your guests

With friends and family around the globe, what better way to connect with your guests than on social media? Announcing your engagement to the world on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, and sending out beautifully designed digital invitations are staples of every modern bride. But no social media friendly wedding is complete without a wedding website. It's not only a great way to keep everyone in the loop about the details of your big day, but can show off photos of the wedding party, share your registry, allow guests to RSVP, and even have guests contribute music to your wedding playlist.

    Document the big day

    socialmediawedding-2.jpg
    photo via Brides.com

With social media, there are so many great ways for you and your guests to share photos, videos and memories. Get creative in creating a wedding hashtag and, with help from your MC and descriptive decor, encourage your guests to share pictures throughout the day. Don’t forget to tag Palmetto Dunes so your followers know the location of your amazing celebration!

Social media savvy brides can turn to Snapchat to document their day. By sending photos and videos, brides can create a montage to share with their Snapchat friends and family. Include your guests in the fun by customizing your own filter that will temporarily appear on the app within the physical location of your wedding venue.

Undoubtedly you will have friends and family in other parts of the world, who aren’t able to make it to your special day. Live streaming the ceremony, using Periscope or Facebook Live is a fantastic way to bring your wedding to those unable to attend.

    Say selfie!

    socialmediawedding-3.jpg
    photo via Pinterest

A popular trend at weddings and special events is the selfie booth. Head to your local craft or costume shop and pick up a handful of fun props. Find the perfect background – or make your own – and let your guests have fun dressing up and taking photos at your reception. These photos make for great mementos from your reception, and great content for your social media feed!

    Relive those magic moments

After the celebrations, curled up in your honeymoon suite, dig into your guests’ wedding photos by searching for your personalized hashtag. Companies like Social Print Studio and Artifact Uprising make it easy to create photo albums, prints, greeting cards even magnets, using the Instagram and social media photos shared on your special day.

The Best Beach Wedding Décor Ideas

Your wedding is an important day, and it should be just that – yours. There are many fantastic ways to add unique touches to your dream beach wedding.

As a popular and memorable beach wedding destination, seen so many beautiful seaside wedding ceremonies and receptions over the years. Now, we’re sharing some of our favorite beach wedding décor, inspired by real Palmetto Dunes weddings!

    Bouquets

A cute idea for a beach wedding is to include a starfish in your bridal bouquet! Small starfish are always an option too, or skip the flowers entirely and make your bouquet out of seashells. You’ll save money and your beautiful seashell bouquet will last forever.

    The Cake

Don’t you just love this elegant cake covered in edible shells? There are lots of ways to incorporate a coastal theme into your wedding cake. Try an adorable beach-themed cake topper, fondant beach chairs, or blue ombré icing.

    Table Centerpieces

Muted tones with bright pops of color and natural accents are the perfect fit for a seaside celebration centerpiece! We love the idea of incorporating different textures and colors into reception centerpieces for a multifaceted look. The great thing about beach-themed centerpieces is that they make affordable and easy DIY projects. Look for grass, driftwood, seashells, and beach glass.

    Shoe Sign

For a casual beach wedding, encourage guests to go barefoot! Let them know shoes are optional with a cute homemade chalkboard sign. Providing flip-flops is always a nice added touch!

    Groom.jpg

    Reception and Ceremony Seating Decor

Burlap or raffia are great for beach wedding décor – particularly when paired with a bright pop of color like the green ribbon shown below. Use starfish or seashells to decorate chairs, or go for a more nautical theme with rope, stripes and buoys.

    beachtabledecor.jpg

    The Aisle

Make your sandy ceremony aisle stand out with something you normally wouldn’t find on the beach, but is still natural and elegant. These flower petals look beautiful, and won’t cause the bride to trip!

    ceremony.jpg

    Ceremony Arch

Take advantage of that warm ocean breeze and think whimsical for your ceremony arch. Capture the easy-breezy vibe of your surroundings by using a lightweight white fabric, and palm leaves!

    archway.jpg

    ceremonysetup.jpg

    “Just Married” Bicycle Flag

The best way to get around Palmetto Dunes is by bicycle, so forget the tin cans tied to a car bumper and hop onto a bicycle built-for-two! For an added touch, add a pennant reading “Just Married!”

This is one beach-themed wedding décor idea we love, but have yet to see at Palmetto Dunes… maybe you could be the first!

Sneak Peek: Breathtaking Bridal Fashion for 2016

For most brides the perfect bridal gown plays a starring role in their wedding day festivities. Brides-to-be spend days researching and shopping for “THE” dress. It is often a very emotional part of the wedding planning process that can involve anyone from just the mother of the bride or a close friend, to a whole brigade of shoppers tagging along to weigh in on the selection process. At Palmetto Dunes, one of our biggest pay offs after spending months coordinating the wedding and getting to know each bride, is watching her walk down the aisle in her perfect dress.

This summer we had the pleasure of catering for Essence of Australia while they photographed their Spring 2016 Bridal Gown line at one of our favorite venues, the Rose Hill Plantation House. In between serving up breakfast, lunch and dinner, we were able to blend into the background and catch a sneak peek at this dreamy line of Martina Liana gowns. Bridal fashion in 2016 promises everything from elegant lace details, glamorous beading, and breathtaking illusion sleeves to stunning mix and match separates and Martina Liana does not disappoint. These gowns exude southern elegance and charm and we can’t wait to see some of our brides dazzling their guests as they walk down the beach in one of these amazing dresses!

Running out of Saturdays? Why you should consider a weekday destination wedding

    glielmi-185.jpg

One of the newest trends in the wedding industry is the weekday wedding. Many brides are losing the traditional Saturday wedding and looking for a memorable Monday event, a Wednesday gala or an intimate Sunday soiree. Celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, Kerry Washington and Kelly Clarkson have recently celebrated their marriage vows mid-week to avoid press and paparazzi. While you may not spend your days dodging those paparazzi lenses, here are some reasons we think weekday weddings are a grand idea to consider:

    1. Savings. Spend just a small amount of time shopping wedding venues and you will notice that pricing changes drastically when comparing a Saturday wedding with a weekday event. Choosing a weekday can potentially flow hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars back into your budget, allowing you to host the event of your dreams or take the perfect honeymoon. But why stop at saving money on your venue? By selecting a wedding date within the week, other vendors may offer discounts as well! Your ideal florist or DJ may be out of your price range for a Saturday wedding, but may offer incentives to book on typically slower weekdays.

    2. Availability. Just past engagement season the flood gates open and all the newly engaged couples start looking for wedding venues. The popularity of weekday weddings is catching on, but many brides start out with a Saturday wedding. This means peak season Saturdays book up fast! If you are eyeing a specific date or have a venue that you really love, you may be more likely to find availability on a week day. Aside from vendor availability, you will also find that you and your guests have far more options for accommodations through the week than on a weekend.

    3. Travel Ease. On Hilton Head Island, many vacation rentals run Saturday to Saturday. With all the island visitors coming on and off the island, it causes a good amount of traffic on Saturdays in peak season. Who wants to spend their wedding day worried about whether your friends and family and vendors are going to make it to the wedding on time? Save yourself the stress! The roads are always less populated through the week, cutting down on headaches for everyone. More importantly, you'll be able to relax and enjoy getting ready for your big day knowing everyone and everything is in its place on time.

    4. More time to relax and celebrate. Something about a weekday wedding just adds a little extra glamour to the whole event. Now you can use your extra time on the island to hold a rehearsal dinner the night before to kick off your celebration. Or keep the party going with an intimate brunch the day after the wedding, and add a relaxing beach day with your wedding party. You have more time to plan kayak outings with your close friends, a boat trip with your family or an intimate excursion with your new husband! So why not make a week of it? Everyone will thank you for the opportunity (or excuse) for a mini-vacation!

How To Plan the Perfect Weekend Wedding

After the excitement of the shiny new piece of jewelry on your left hand passes, wedding planning kicks into high gear. The venue, the dress, the flowers, the entertainment, the food, the family and fun – planned for months to celebrate for one day. At Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, we feel as if one day simply isn’t enough to celebrate the love and commitment of the happy couple. Whether your Hilton Head Island wedding is a destination wedding or you call the Island home, invite your guests to enjoy your extended wedding weekend! Keep the party going with these unique wedding events:

    KingStreetPhotoWeddings.jpg

    1. Host a Welcome Party

Why: If most of your guests are coming to Hilton Head Island from out of town, a welcome party is the perfect venue to thank them for traveling to celebrate your wedding with you in a relaxed environment.

When: You will want to coordinate the welcome party around guests’ arrival days and will not want it to conflict with the rehearsal dinner. However, a “Welcome Reception” with cocktails instead of a sit down dinner after the rehearsal dinner would be equally as hospitable and give the opportunity for all of your guests to mingle before the big day.

Who to Invite: The whole guest list! Host a sit down dinner, cocktails or even dessert and coffee – your guests will be delighted you are setting apart time to spend with you and get to know the other guests.

Where: You will want to keep the welcome party casual, guests should feel comfortable arriving in their travel clothes and be able to relax and enjoy each other’s company. Big Jim’s is the perfect location to host a traditional Southern meal of BBQ, ribs, burgers and all the fixin’s which will make your guests feel right at home. Use the same venue to serve cocktails or set up a dessert bar on the outside porch overlooking the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course, casual is key.

    landing-catering-weddings.jpg

    2. Daytime Activity Guide

Why: Out of town guests will most certainly be looking for entertainment while in town for your celebration. Creating a menu of activities or even setting up group activities for guests to participate in makes each person feel as if they are included in the big day.

When: Day before the wedding or day after, totally up to you!

What will they do: Luckily for the brides and grooms who choose to get married at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, the opportunities for fun are endless! Our experienced wedding coordinators can assist in planning a group golf outing, golf tournament, kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, surfing lessons, fishing charters, spa days, bridal luncheons, tennis court time, private pickleball clinics and just about anything else you can imagine!

How: Create a menu or “guide” with a few suggested activities with at least one group activity (ex. Kayaking at Hilton Head Outfitters at 3 PM!) to send to your guest list a week or so before their arrival. That way, they have the option to join the group and can also begin to plan how to make your entire wedding weekend like a mini-vacation.

    Water-5.jpg

    3. Kids ONLY Party

Why: While some weddings are limited to those 21+, others host a group of little ones (really, is there anything cuter than the flower girl and ring bearer hand in hand?). Kids are on their best behavior when they are having fun, which allows the grownups to have fun too. Host a kids only movie night in Centre Court Pavilion, treat them to a Little Swingers golf or tennis clinic, take them on a fishing adventure on our 11 mile lagoon or even fill a bucket of beach toys from Hilton Head Outfitters to create endless fun in the sun.

Other Fun Kids Ideas: Milk and cookie toast with the adults champagne toast, fill a bucket of sparklers for some kid-friendly magic (and some amazing photos!), print off some wedding themed coloring pages to entertain the kids at the dinner table and play at least one song that the kids can sing-a-long to!

    large-inset-kids-boat-fishing.jpg

    4. Farewell Brunch

Why: With all the hussle and bussle of the wedding, it is an amazing opportunity to sit down, relax and enjoy a parting brunch with your guests and relatives. There is no better way to say “thank you for making my wedding part of your plans” than over eggs benedict and southern style pancakes.

Where: Pick a location totally unique to your wedding day. If you did a beachfront ceremony at the Dunes House and a stunning reception at Centre Court Pavilion, try hosting the brunch at the Arthur Hills Clubhouse. This classic golf clubhouse is situated under shady oak trees overlooking the golf course. Attendees can play an early round or squeeze in a round after brunch before heading out of town.

Who to invite: This one is again, up to you. Invite all of your guests for an easy buffet style brunch or just your wedding party for a sit down brunch with all of your favorites. No one is worrying about fitting into a dress/tux and you are happily married.

    Catering-inset.jpg

Taking your wedding from a few hours long to a mini-vacation is fun for everyone involved and Palmetto Dunes is happy to assist in your planning. You will always remember your extended wedding weekend and so will your guests. Don’t forget, you can always take it a step further and honeymoon with Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort with our Honeymoon Package.

Sending wonderful wedding wishes your way!

A Day to Remember: Wedding Bliss at Palmetto Dunes

Beachfront weddings at Palmetto Dunes are simple affairs for the skilled and friendly staff at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort. Here are a few of our recent happy couples that had such wonderful things to say. Here at Palmetto Dunes Resort we consider it a great privilege to be a part of such an important day.

    ADaytoRemember.jpg 5Stars-TheKnot.gif
Review from The Knot, posted 11/1/2015
My husband and I had our first vacation together on Hilton Head Island and stayed in Palmetto Dunes. We loved it so much that our venue choice was very easy when we got engaged several years later. Because we had an intimate wedding (about 35 guests), we opted to have the reception at a private home but with in-house catering by Palmetto Dunes. Our ceremony was on the beach in front of the Dunes House. We planned our wedding from NYC, and Lou Anne and Kaitlin were incredibly helpful every step of the way. Lou Anne gave tips for selecting a menu with lots of variety despite our smaller sized group, Kaitlin suggested the best spots to set up tables and unobtrusive prep areas for the staff, and they helped with a dry run the night before the wedding. Then, when our ceremony was postponed by rain, Lou Anne and Kaitlin were immediately ready to go with plan B, but helped us stay positive while waiting for the rain to stop, and got the chairs ready to go right when it did. They also helped rearrange the set up back at the house so that hors d'oeuvres and drinks were out as soon as possible. In short, they had a great attitude and were 100% prepared to handle anything the day threw at them. Also, the food was fantastic, and all of our guests raved about it (especially the jambalaya). Between the location, service, and the food, we are so thankful that we chose PD and highly recommend it!

5 Creative Ideas for your Hilton Head Beach Wedding

Did you get engaged over the holidays? Then you’re embarking on the exciting wedding planning process. Here at Palmetto Dunes, we host many Hilton Head beach weddings every year and love to help our brides and grooms plan for their special day.

We’ve compiled some really fun and creative beach wedding ideas we’ve come across on Pinterest to help inspire you as you begin planning your nuptials.

    Beach-Themed Cookies

TrendHunter shares these adorable beach-themed cookies, which can be served at a beach wedding, bridal shower or rehearsal dinner. We absolutely love the tiny flip-flops next to the beach waves -- all created with icing!

    Seashell Cupcakes

Another cute and probably easier-to-make dessert to serve at your beach wedding are these seashell cupcakes. Simply use blue icing topped with a small seashell.

    Handprint Photo

Here’s a clever photo you can ask your wedding photographer to shoot on the big day. The bride and groom literally “make their mark” in the sand with their handprints to capture on camera. For added fun, place your wedding ring on the wedding fingerprint in the sand -- just don’t lose them!

    Flip-Flop Basket

Invite your guests “kick off their heels” and don some sand-appropriate footwear in the form of flip-flops with this cute basket. Place near the dance floor or in front of the aisle.

    Mason Jar Decor

This idea comes from a wedding we hosted at the oceanfront Dunes House. This simple mason jar with wedding flowers hangs from a simple garden hook at the entrance to the ceremony. Simple, but elegant!

Be sure to follow our Hilton Head Weddings board on Pinterest for even more great beach wedding ideas.
