The Dunes House at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort was the perfect setting for our wedding.

Palmetto Dunes Weddings can really wow your guests. The amazing catering and event planning staff make it all possible! Read recent reviews from happy couples that planned their destination weddings with ease.

    Emily on WeddingWire said:

The Dunes House at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort was the perfect setting for our wedding. The only thing I had ever thought about for my wedding before getting engaged was that I wanted to be barefoot with my toes in the sand. The Dunes House offered a lovely ceremony right on the beach and then a delightful reception outdoors. Our guests loved being able to hang out on the beach, play in the sand and take a walk on the beach during the reception. The food was absolutely delicious, something I'm not entirely used to at a wedding. We also went with them to cater our dessert table and it turned out perfectly.

Courtney was a treat to work with. She was very responsive and helpful, even helping us find an off-site location for our welcome reception the night before the wedding. I can't praise the staff enough for their helpfulness, professionalism and overall demeanor throughout the process. If you're looking for a beautiful, romantic beach setting for your wedding, I'd definitely recommend The Dunes House.

.... I went into this not knowing ANYTHING as far as what I was supposed to do and these two women made me feel like an old pro! My wife and I were incredibly pleased with the entire day and the attention to detail was second to none. Thanks so much... We cannot recommend the Dunes House, and the entire Palmetto Dunes team, enough!

    2018 Wedding Trends

Another wedding season is upon us so get out your wedding planner and pull up your Pinterest boards, because it’s time to start planning your perfect Palmetto Dunes wedding. While a lot of wedding traditions and timeless touches will never go out of style, tapping into the season’s wedding trends can add that extra special something to your celebration.

Here are our top 5 wedding trends of 2018 that are definitely worth your consideration.

    1. Embracing local culture

As the trend of destination weddings continues, couples are becoming more and more inspired to connect with the local culture during their festivities. Whether it’s a regionally-themed menu, locally-sourced wedding favors, or entertainment from the region, embracing the details of the destination offers your guests with a truly authentic celebration experience.

    2. Emphasis on the after party

If you’re planning a Lowcountry wedding, there’s one thing that’s certain—your guests are going to have a good time. Especially with the newfound focus on the after party! This season’s brides and grooms are going for a smaller ceremony and reception and pulling out all the stops later in the night. Offering guests midnight snacks, late-night drinks, and live entertainment, newlyweds are taking advantage of every moment with their guests.

    3. Unique food

Couples are opting out of the traditional 3-course set wedding menu for meals with a more memorable touch. From serving their favorite foods and signature drinks to bringing in the big guns with food trucks, portable pizza ovens, and the like, the wedding dining experience is now being taken to the next level. At Palmetto Dunes, we suggest setting up a shucking station to introduce your guests to oysters—a local delicacy in the region.

    4. Vibe over palette

In years past, it was all about the color scheme. But this season, instead of starting with colors, brides and grooms are now letting the feel of their celebration dictate the details of their big day. Whether couples communicate visions of a relaxed beach celebration or an elegant Southern affair, or somewhere in between, our team of wedding experts can help turn any dream into a stunning reality.

    5. Garden Garnishes

Flowers have always been a key player in wedding décor, but this season look forward to seeing more of the garden brought in the mix. From lush hanging arrangements and fresh cut greenery on tables to living botanical bars and potted plants along the aisle, you’ll see much more of a creative approach to floral displays. We always love making the sleepy oak trees that line Hilton Head Island part of the décor.

    Palmetto Dunes Wedding Guide: Décor

You’ve picked the perfect place to say “I do” and assembled your team of vendors, now it’s time to let your imagination run wild with the décor! Here are our top four tips for styling the wedding of your dreams:

    Do Your Research

It’s easy to jump in with both feet and start buying your décor, but do your best to plan ahead. Consider the look and feel that you’re trying to achieve. Look around for ideas and inspiration—our Pinterest page is a great resource! Then pull together all of your ideas in one place so you can see how all of your decorative elements will work together. Not only will your décor be more cohesive, you’ll save time and money.

Our tip: Consider your location when making décor decisions. For beach weddings, it is important to consider the ocean breeze. Our wedding specialists recommend that couples “make sure whatever they bring has a little weight to it to make sure things aren’t blowing away, especially signs, place cards, etc.”

    Set a Budget

Décor is a very easy place spend big, so be sure to set a budget. One easy way to stick to it is by taking advantage of your venue features—an easy thing to do at Palmetto Dunes! With a beach ceremony, simply let the beauty of Hilton Head Island’s shores act as your backdrop. At the Arthur Hills Golf Course, allow your décor to draw even more attention to the stunning oak trees surrounding the course.

Our tip: A recommendation from our wedding specialists—beyond checking out our wedding packages of course—is that “one way to dress up a head table and not break the bank is repurposing bridesmaid bouquets on the tables. Be sure to let your florist know so they can supply the vases.”

    Connect the Color Scheme

When selecting your wedding colors, think of it as a palette rather than just one or two colors. By adding different shades of your main colors, you will add richness and depth to the overall look of your wedding. Once you’ve selected your color scheme, incorporate it from start to finish. From the invitations to the wedding favors, and everything in between, it will give your wedding a seamless style.

Our tip: Your venue can be a great source of inspiration when coming up with your color scheme. The colors of the ceremony and reception sites, whether it’s the blues of the oceans or the greens of the natural surroundings, can spark an idea that will take your décor to the next level.

    Simplicity is Key

When it comes to wedding décor, our biggest tip has to be less is often more. A few key, well thought out elements are can make more of a statement than décor overload. So, pick a few pieces that reflect your style and focus on the execution. Most importantly, don’t be afraid to show your personality—it’s the little details that are added to your décor that your guests remember.

Our tip: Don’t forget about lighting. Strategically placed up lighting, string lights, or candles, can completely transform a venue. Consider having different types of lighting to distinguish different spaces. For the dinner you may want soft, romantic lighting while for the dance you may want something more vibrant and upbeat.

"Palmetto Dunes Made the Wedding of our dreams possible!" - Recent Reviews from Happy Couples

Many couples dream of a island wedding (rain or shine!) or a wedding on a beach with the sound of the rolling waves in the background as they make their vows. The wedding events & catering team at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort help brides and grooms make their dreams come true every year. Here's what some of them recently said:

    Lizzy said...
I couldn't be happier with my wedding at Palmetto Dunes. We had originally booked the Dunes House for the ceremony and reception but due to rain had to switch the Center Court at the last minute. The rain was touch and go all day and our coordinator Courtney was wonderful with communicating our options and ensuring us that everything would be perfect either way we went. The set up at center court was beautiful! I gave Courtney a lot of decor and she and the staff laid everything out to perfection! The food was delicious- all of our guests raved about it! We had a very long engagement and Courtney was responsive and helpful through every step of the process. I had such a wonderful experience and would recommend Palmetto Dunes to everyone looking for a beautiful place to have a wedding!

    Kim said...
As the mother of the groom for a destination wedding, I would HIGHLY recommend Courtney Daley and her staff at Palmetto Dunes! We were able to easily plan the entire wedding from Ohio because of Courtney and Lindsay. They were always prompt and professional in their replies. They were always able to answer questions and to make suggestions regarding vendors. The venue itself was absolutely beautiful as the happy couple was married on the beach and the food for the reception was delicious. Courtney and her crew handled all of the details and made it so that the bride and groom (and the rest of us!) could enjoy the big day.

A happy bride and groom from Ohio said...

Five Ways to Have a Social Media Friendly Wedding

Social media has become part of our everyday lives, so it's bound to be a part of the biggest day of your life too – your wedding! There are plenty of social media tools and tricks to help you navigate your nuptials, from wedding planning to documenting the big day! So listen up social media savvy brides and grooms, here are five ways to use social media when saying ‘I do’ at Palmetto Dunes:

    Get inspired

The days of carrying around a stack of wedding magazines are gone. Nowadays brides-to-be are turning to Pinterest to gain inspiration, learn about the latest in wedding trends, and find DIY ideas. From the ring to the dress to the decor, Pinterest provides a seemingly infinite collection of wedding ideas and allows brides to keep track of their favorite finds. For our top beach wedding ideas, visit the Hilton Head Weddings Pinterest board!

    Connect with your guests

With friends and family around the globe, what better way to connect with your guests than on social media? Announcing your engagement to the world on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, and sending out beautifully designed digital invitations are staples of every modern bride. But no social media friendly wedding is complete without a wedding website. It's not only a great way to keep everyone in the loop about the details of your big day, but can show off photos of the wedding party, share your registry, allow guests to RSVP, and even have guests contribute music to your wedding playlist.

    Document the big day

    photo via Brides.com

With social media, there are so many great ways for you and your guests to share photos, videos and memories. Get creative in creating a wedding hashtag and, with help from your MC and descriptive decor, encourage your guests to share pictures throughout the day. Don’t forget to tag Palmetto Dunes so your followers know the location of your amazing celebration!

Social media savvy brides can turn to Snapchat to document their day. By sending photos and videos, brides can create a montage to share with their Snapchat friends and family. Include your guests in the fun by customizing your own filter that will temporarily appear on the app within the physical location of your wedding venue.

Undoubtedly you will have friends and family in other parts of the world, who aren’t able to make it to your special day. Live streaming the ceremony, using Periscope or Facebook Live is a fantastic way to bring your wedding to those unable to attend.

    Say selfie!

    photo via Pinterest

A popular trend at weddings and special events is the selfie booth. Head to your local craft or costume shop and pick up a handful of fun props. Find the perfect background – or make your own – and let your guests have fun dressing up and taking photos at your reception. These photos make for great mementos from your reception, and great content for your social media feed!

    Relive those magic moments

After the celebrations, curled up in your honeymoon suite, dig into your guests’ wedding photos by searching for your personalized hashtag. Companies like Social Print Studio and Artifact Uprising make it easy to create photo albums, prints, greeting cards even magnets, using the Instagram and social media photos shared on your special day.

The Best Beach Wedding Décor Ideas

Your wedding is an important day, and it should be just that – yours. There are many fantastic ways to add unique touches to your dream beach wedding.

As a popular and memorable beach wedding destination, seen so many beautiful seaside wedding ceremonies and receptions over the years. Now, we’re sharing some of our favorite beach wedding décor, inspired by real Palmetto Dunes weddings!

    Bouquets

A cute idea for a beach wedding is to include a starfish in your bridal bouquet! Small starfish are always an option too, or skip the flowers entirely and make your bouquet out of seashells. You’ll save money and your beautiful seashell bouquet will last forever.

    Heather Kline Photography

    The Cake

Don’t you just love this elegant cake covered in edible shells? There are lots of ways to incorporate a coastal theme into your wedding cake. Try an adorable beach-themed cake topper, fondant beach chairs, or blue ombré icing.

    Table Centerpieces

Muted tones with bright pops of color and natural accents are the perfect fit for a seaside celebration centerpiece! We love the idea of incorporating different textures and colors into reception centerpieces for a multifaceted look. The great thing about beach-themed centerpieces is that they make affordable and easy DIY projects. Look for grass, driftwood, seashells, and beach glass.

    Shoe Sign

For a casual beach wedding, encourage guests to go barefoot! Let them know shoes are optional with a cute homemade chalkboard sign. Providing flip-flops is always a nice added touch!

    Reception and Ceremony Seating Decor

Burlap or raffia are great for beach wedding décor – particularly when paired with a bright pop of color like the green ribbon shown below. Use starfish or seashells to decorate chairs, or go for a more nautical theme with rope, stripes and buoys.

    The Aisle

Make your sandy ceremony aisle stand out with something you normally wouldn’t find on the beach, but is still natural and elegant. These flower petals look beautiful, and won’t cause the bride to trip!

    Ceremony Arch

Take advantage of that warm ocean breeze and think whimsical for your ceremony arch. Capture the easy-breezy vibe of your surroundings by using a lightweight white fabric, and palm leaves!

    “Just Married” Bicycle Flag

The best way to get around Palmetto Dunes is by bicycle, so forget the tin cans tied to a car bumper and hop onto a bicycle built-for-two! For an added touch, add a pennant reading “Just Married!”

This is one beach-themed wedding décor idea we love, but have yet to see at Palmetto Dunes… maybe you could be the first!
