Our Favorite Toys from the 64th Annual PGA Merchandise Show

In the world of golf business, the PGA Merchandise Show is a major championship. The 64th PGA Merchandise Show took place in late January in Orlando, with 1,000-plus top golf companies and brands, and more than 40,000 industry professionals from around the world descending upon the industry’s annual global summit for the business of golf.

Of course, Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort was well represented around the Orange County Convention Center. Here are some of the latest and greatest golf equipment and technologies our correspondents saw at “The Show.”

Palmetto Dunes Golf Academy Director, Doug Weaver, brought home some cutting-edge technology with Blast Golf and Putting, a full-swing analysis tool that Doug’s friend and seven-time PGA Tour winner Brad Faxon designed and uses. The Blast Golf swing analyzer sensor captures a user’s stroke metrics, helps analyze their data and provides drills to improve their timing. By improving timing, they will make more putts. Said Doug: “Blast Golf allows us to gather swing and stroke metrics on students. We combine with video show the student faults and offer fixes.”

Palmetto Dunes is also offering the latest video technology to create a personalized cyber vision tool for students to learn how to truly visualize. “Visualization connects the brain to muscles faster in the learning process,” Doug said. “Jason Day, the No. 1 player in the world closing his eyes in his pre-shot routine, has created a surge of interest in this area of high level of performance in golf.” https://blastmotion.com

Director of Golf Clark Sinclair was roaming the aisles in Orlando. One of his favorite pieces of equipment was the new GBB Epic driver from Callaway Golf http://cmp.callawaygolf.com. In 2017 Callaway clubs (XR woods and irons) will be available for rental at all three Palmetto Dunes courses. Clark said he also was impressed with the newest PUMA Golf http://www.cobragolf.com/pumagolf/ line of clothing, which is one of the most popular Palmetto Dunes pro shop offerings, while PD has PUMA GOLF music speakers for sale in the pro shops. On Clark’s wish list is a full-swing simulator from Foresight Sports, which allows golf junkies to turn practically any space around the house into the ultimate golf simulator. http://www.foresightsports.com/golf-simulators

Finally, one of our correspondents at The Show bumped into former PGA Tour caddie and current ESPN.com senior golf analyst Michael Collins. Collins said the coolest thing he had seen in Orlando was the Swing Coach. Swing Coach is a self-improvement training aid for consistency and accuracy, a game-changing personal training aid to help golfers develop a repeatable swing—resulting in better shots and lower scores. https://www.swingcoachclub.com

Collins also took note of the most expensive golf clubs at The Show that went for $75,000 including a hosel made from gold and platinum, manufactured by Japanese equipment company Honma Golf. We better get out there and win the lottery! http://www.honmagolf.com
