Your wedding is an important day, and it should be just that – yours. There are many fantastic ways to add unique touches to your dream beach wedding.
As a popular and memorable beach wedding destination, seen so many beautiful seaside wedding ceremonies and receptions over the years. Now, we’re sharing some of our favorite beach wedding décor, inspired by real Palmetto Dunes weddings!
A cute idea for a beach wedding is to include a starfish in your bridal bouquet! Small starfish are always an option too, or skip the flowers entirely and make your bouquet out of seashells. You’ll save money and your beautiful seashell bouquet will last forever.

Don’t you just love this elegant cake covered in edible shells? There are lots of ways to incorporate a coastal theme into your wedding cake. Try an adorable beach-themed cake topper, fondant beach chairs, or blue ombré icing.

Muted tones with bright pops of color and natural accents are the perfect fit for a seaside celebration centerpiece! We love the idea of incorporating different textures and colors into reception centerpieces for a multifaceted look. The great thing about beach-themed centerpieces is that they make affordable and easy DIY projects. Look for grass, driftwood, seashells, and beach glass.

For a casual beach wedding, encourage guests to go barefoot! Let them know shoes are optional with a cute homemade chalkboard sign. Providing flip-flops is always a nice added touch!

Reception and Ceremony Seating Decor
Burlap or raffia are great for beach wedding décor – particularly when paired with a bright pop of color like the green ribbon shown below. Use starfish or seashells to decorate chairs, or go for a more nautical theme with rope, stripes and buoys.

Make your sandy ceremony aisle stand out with something you normally wouldn’t find on the beach, but is still natural and elegant. These flower petals look beautiful, and won’t cause the bride to trip!
Take advantage of that warm ocean breeze and think whimsical for your ceremony arch. Capture the easy-breezy vibe of your surroundings by using a lightweight white fabric, and palm leaves!
“Just Married” Bicycle Flag
The best way to get around Palmetto Dunes is by bicycle, so forget the tin cans tied to a car bumper and hop onto a bicycle built-for-two! For an added touch, add a pennant reading “Just Married!”
This is one beach-themed wedding décor idea we love, but have yet to see at Palmetto Dunes… maybe you could be the first!

Review from The Knot, posted 11/1/2015
My husband and I had our first vacation together on Hilton Head Island and stayed in Palmetto Dunes. We loved it so much that our venue choice was very easy when we got engaged several years later. Because we had an intimate wedding (about 35 guests), we opted to have the reception at a private home but with in-house catering by Palmetto Dunes. Our ceremony was on the beach in front of the Dunes House. We planned our wedding from NYC, and Lou Anne and Kaitlin were incredibly helpful every step of the way. Lou Anne gave tips for selecting a menu with lots of variety despite our smaller sized group, Kaitlin suggested the best spots to set up tables and unobtrusive prep areas for the staff, and they helped with a dry run the night before the wedding. Then, when our ceremony was postponed by rain, Lou Anne and Kaitlin were immediately ready to go with plan B, but helped us stay positive while waiting for the rain to stop, and got the chairs ready to go right when it did. They also helped rearrange the set up back at the house so that hors d'oeuvres and drinks were out as soon as possible. In short, they had a great attitude and were 100% prepared to handle anything the day threw at them. Also, the food was fantastic, and all of our guests raved about it (especially the jambalaya). Between the location, service, and the food, we are so thankful that we chose PD and highly recommend it!

Did you get engaged over the holidays? Then you’re embarking on the exciting wedding planning process. Here at Palmetto Dunes, we host many Hilton Head beach weddings every year and love to help our brides and grooms plan for their special day.
We’ve compiled some really fun and creative beach wedding ideas we’ve come across on Pinterest to help inspire you as you begin planning your nuptials.
TrendHunter shares these adorable beach-themed cookies, which can be served at a beach wedding, bridal shower or rehearsal dinner. We absolutely love the tiny flip-flops next to the beach waves -- all created with icing!
Another cute and probably easier-to-make dessert to serve at your beach wedding are these seashell cupcakes. Simply use blue icing topped with a small seashell.
Here’s a clever photo you can ask your wedding photographer to shoot on the big day. The bride and groom literally “make their mark” in the sand with their handprints to capture on camera. For added fun, place your wedding ring on the wedding fingerprint in the sand -- just don’t lose them!
Invite your guests “kick off their heels” and don some sand-appropriate footwear in the form of flip-flops with this cute basket. Place near the dance floor or in front of the aisle.
Mason Jar Decor
This idea comes from a wedding we hosted at the oceanfront Dunes House. This simple mason jar with wedding flowers hangs from a simple garden hook at the entrance to the ceremony. Simple, but elegant!

Jay and I took the time to sample the desserts and everything was spectacular! :) Please let the Chef know we appreciated his assistance at the last minute and very grateful he was able to help us out.
Thank you for your patience with all of the emails back & forth as it certainly made planning a lot easier from afar. Our wedding was so magical, we wish it could have lasted longer. Many couples dream of a beach wedding with the tide rolling behind them and their toes in the sand. The team at Palmetto Dunes helps that dream come true for many a bride and groom every year. Here's what many of them had to say about their amazing ceremonies:
Ben and Lindsay
“Picking the perfect location for your wedding can be the most daunting part of planning. After researching and visiting many wedding venues on Hilton Head Island, we knew instantly that their wedding planner was honest and sincere in what she and Palmetto Dunes could offer for our wedding day. The moment we saw the Dunes House, we knew that it was the perfect location for a beach ceremony. The Dunes House offered us elegance, yet simplicity… Along with the ideal setting, came a ceremony and reception that ran smoothly and seamlessly. Everything was perfectly coordinated on the ‘day of’, Ben and I only had to show up. From the sea oats and linens on the tables to the delightful dinner, everything was wonderfully prepared. The staff at Palmetto Dunes provided us with a venue and an experience that surpassed all our dreams of a perfect wedding day.”
“My wife, Dana had always wanted a beach wedding, and we visited numerous venues on the Southeastern coast. When we came to Palmetto Dunes, we knew we had found our place. The sheer beauty of the resort is captivating, and the Dunes House looked like something that came out of our dreams. Working with our Wedding Coordinator was an absolute pleasure. She made the overwhelming number of decisions that we needed to make a pleasure, and guided us every step of the way. She genuinely cared about our Wedding, and did everything that she could to make sure that it was everything we wanted and more.
The ceremony itself was stunning. The setup and decorations that she had prepared were beautiful, and she was there to make sure that everything went off without a hitch. Our reception went into the night, and the moonlight shimmering off of the ocean was right out of a fairly tale. One of the things that surprised us the most about that night was how amazing the food was! Most weddings that we have been to have relatively modest food, but the Chef at Palmetto Dunes prepared one of the best buffets that we and our guests have ever tasted.
Lastly, it is important to note that Palmetto Dunes made our wedding affordable. The food, beverages and the venue were very reasonably priced, and we really felt like we got a great deal. Now that we have been married for almost six months, we look back on our wedding at Palmetto Dunes as a perfect event. If you are considering Palmetto Dunes to host your special day, there really isn't a better option. Palmetto Dunes was perfect, and we couldn't ask for more.”
Joe and Sarah
“Our wedding in Palmetto Dunes … was as magical a day as we had dreamed. We had a very personal sunset ceremony with one of the most scenic views imaginable. We highly recommend the staff at Palmetto Dunes Resort. From the wedding planner's advice on vendors to her comforting words when the weather didn't seem to be cooperating, we couldn't envision planning this most important day without them. We were even able to get a sound technician on the beach to play our Beatles ceremony: Octopus's Garden, as the guest were seated, All You Need Is Love for the processional, and The End for our first kiss and end of the ceremony. As you can see from our photo, it was a beautiful, intimate event…”
“They say that rain on your wedding day is good luck. I just think it's an old saying to help brides feel better during a deluge! Nonetheless, we had no choice but to happily embrace our blessings from heaven when the skies opened up on our wedding day at Palmetto Dunes. Part of the reason I chose PD is because the Dunes House and the adjacent covered patio made for a picturesque ‘Plan B’ in case of rain … our wedding planner was absolutely wonderful the morning of the wedding in shifting everything indoors and making sure we still had the special oceanside wedding we desired. I truly feel that our positive attitudes during the downpour, the loving energy we got from our guests, and the wedding planner's swift actions moved God to cease the rain precisely when the ceremony ended! It seems no sooner did the minister allow my husband to ‘kiss the bride’ that the rain stopped and the sky turned a beautiful, dreamy dark blue! We were able to take photos outside on the deck and on the beach -- our photographer loved the post-storm sky and said it was much better than having bright sun. Our dinner was still indoors and featured the simple elegance and intimacy the Dunes House offers; the food was delicious and the decor was wonderful. We enjoyed drinks and dancing outside, and we look back on our rainy wedding day as absolutely perfect! Our thanks to Palmetto Dunes- even with the rain you gave us a dream wedding we'll never forget!”
