Tough To Beat. Impossible Not To Enjoy.

Hilton Head Island’s only par-70 public golf course, the George Fazio course at Palmetto Dunes is one of the island’s most distinctive and challenging layouts. Many golfers regard it as the most challenging public course on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, but don’t let that intimidate you. It is designed to be a true but fair test for golfers of all skill levels.

One of the youngest golf courses to be featured on Golf Digest’s list of America’s 100 Best, it was also recently named South Carolina Golf Course of the Year by the SC Golf Course Owners Association. With only two par 5s, the heart of the course lies in a series of long par 4s, beginning with the 432-yard first hole and ending with the 462-yard 18th. With new state-of-the-art Diamond Zoysia greens, the Fazio Course delivers a peak golf experience you’re sure to remember.

Long but forgiving off the tee, the opening hole favors a drive down the right side. The approach to this long, narrow green, flanked on the left by out-of-bounds, can play even longer into the wind.

Stay right off this tee. Don't go for the green in two; water short right, a bunker short left and a tall tree guard this green. The smart play is to lay up to 150-100 yards out. The shallow, one-club green is raised in the middle.

A long bunker on the right and a small bunker on the left guard this fairway. Play to the 150-yard post. This deep, elevated green is guarded on the right by two deep bunkers. A back pin placement may require an additional 2-3 clubs on your approach.

This par 3 requires an exacting shot to an elevated, two-tiered green with two bunkers short left. Make sure you have enough club and be wary of a back left pin placement. Out-of-bounds lurks just to the left of the green.

Yards

Tee shots to the left of the 150-yard post may be blocked by trees, so stay to the right and leave yourself an open shot to the green. Elevated, small and protected on the right by a large bunker, this green can be tough to hit. Choose your club wisely.

Check the wind; being short is not an option. A front left pin placement can be tricky. Long or anything left are good bailouts here.

This wide fairway runs downhill past the 15-yard post toward the lagoon. Do not miss this long narrow green to the left. Pin placement on this elevated green can make a 2-3 club difference on your approach shot, especially into the wind.

414 374 359 332 320 203

This demanding, uphill tee shot is to a crowned fairway and requires commitment and precision. A well-bunkered, elevated green makes the approach play long. Take plenty of club and check the wind.

Getting past the fairway bunkers opens up the left side; otherwise, it's a narrow landing area between them. The 45-yard deep green is only 20 paces wide. Large bunkers protect its entire left side; the only bailout is on the right.

Yards

421 409 385 356 321 195

A tee shot down the right side is good here, but pay attention to the right fairway bunker. A smart lay-up to 100 yards leaves a wedge to a wide, shallow green. Don't miss a front left pin long, as out-of- bounds lurks just beyond the left side of the green.

A long tee shot at the water tower can cut the corner or you can play between the bunkers. This elevated green has a valley running through the middle that runs off the back. A long approach here can find water... and alligators. A back right pin placement may require an extra club.

394 376 364 304 278 191

This slight dog-leg left narrows past the 150-yard post, making placement off the tee critical. Trees to the left can block your approach so favor the right side. The wind can be tricky here. Another small, elevated green, guarded in the front by two large bunkers, runs very close to out-of-bounds long and left.

Yards

Gold Blue White Green Red Black
387 364 319 300 275 217

A tee shot to the left of the 150-yard post on this dogleg left may get blocked by trees. Stay straight and you'll have less than 150 yards for your approach. A small, two-tiered green, high on the left side and low on the right, requires precise iron play.

Yards

Gold Blue White Green Red Black
386 366 354 272 263 167

Attention to wind direction is crucial for proper club selection here. Trouble is short and left, and the tree on the right can come into play. Be smart and take an extra club.

This long par 4 opens up past the mound down the right side; the only trouble is the bunker on the left. A good approach shot must clear the front bunkers to find this small green. A back right pin placement can be tough to find, so play to the middle of the green.

Our Fazio Signature Hole. This fairway is flanked by large bunkers, making accuracy a must. Anything beyond the right bunkers can find water. The approach to this long, narrow green can play very long into the wind. With a bunker left and water right, there's no bail out. Choose your club and go for it.

Yards

425 416 403 351 349 230

This is one of the finest par 3 holes on Hilton Head Island. Wind is important because a shot that is short will find the water. The only smart play is to the middle of the green. If you're lucky enough to find the putting surface, take your two putts and move on.

Only straignt tee shots will find the fairway. Cut the corner on the right and you may get blocked by trees. This elevated green is guarded by two large bunkers right and one left, with out-of-bounds long and left. Check the wind and be sure you have enough club for your approach.
