From Hilton Head Island’s dunes rise three of golf’s great challenges

Great golf, great experience
Went to Hilton Head for a guys golf trip and am so glad we chose Palmetto Dunes. Despite 5 inches of rain in the two days prior, all 3 courses were in phenomenal shape. The greens, all three different types, yet all 3 were pure. We played each round (4 total) in under 4:15 as the marshals kept pace of play moving. Can’t go wrong with any of the three but my favorite was the Jones course.

But if the golf wasn’t good enough the entire experience was just as good. From Stephen the GM, to Mason to the entire staff, everyone made you feel like you were the only golfers there. Our lefty broke his 6 iron and they had a loaner for the rest of that day and by the next day had us repaired and in his bag. Amazing! And the food at Big Jim’s is as good as you will find. We are already planning our return trip!

Retreat from the Northeast for the winter spent two hours this week in a group full swing clinic with Doug Weaver, director of golf instruction. Best 2 hours with a golf club in my hands in my memory. From putting to chipping to pitching to the full swing, I experienced what a fluid, tension-free golf swing/stroke--"see it, feel it, trust it"--was really like on a consistent basis. I don't expect to shoot scratch, but I'm confident I'll walk off a course from now on a much more content player. Was worth every minute and dime I spent.

Robert Trent Jones was such a beautiful course to play! The range has mats that really help you get into a rhythm before playing. The course was in great shape and I will definitely be coming back!

George Fazio Course
One of the 3 Palmetto dunes resort courses. Played here recently and I’m glad I chose this course to play on the island. There are many options but if you want to play a course that has excellent conditions that isn’t going to hurt your bank then this is the course. You will literally not be disappointed playing here!

Kids golf lessons
This is our second set of lessons at Robert Trent Jones course in Palmetto Dunes. A year after our first lesson with Doug Weaver my kids (4 & 7) still sing the song he taught them when addressing the ball. Coach Tim today had us play a hole and the kids had a blast. As a bonus, at the end of the first lesson, Coach Doug asked to see my swing, cracked a hilarious joke and changed one minor thing that has greatly improved my game. Definitely recommend Coach Doug Weaver, Coach Tim and the Robert Trent Jones facility.
