Getting around Palmetto Dunes and Hilton Head Island is simple when you know the options. Read below for helpful details on parking guidelines, car passes, and the convenient trolley services that make it easy to explore the resort and nearby island attractions. Whether you’re arriving, heading to the beach, or venturing out for the evening, this information will help keep your plans running smoothly.
Car Passes
For those staying in a Palmetto Dunes Resort managed vacation rental, car passes will be issued at guest check-in and are required to enter the gates of Palmetto Dunes Resort. A surcharge will be applied to additional passes requested upon arrival. Please make sure that you have ordered the correct amount of car passes for your stay, in advance. The security gates are separate from the rental companies and will not allow access without a preordered gate pass. Please note that parking is limited within the resort so all properties will have restrictions on the total amount of passes ordered.
All other visitors must obtain a pass at the Pass Office located at 16 Queen’s Folly Road. Pass Office hours vary seasonally. All car passes must be displayed on your dashboard at all times.

Parking
Parking on the roadway is not permitted. Parking on lawns is not permitted. Park in designated parking spaces only. Any improperly parked vehicles may be towed at the owner’s expense.
** Parking at Mainsail complex: Only owner vehicles with a Shelter Cove owner’s decal/pass are permitted to be parked inside of the parking garages.

The Dunes Buggy
Ride the Palmetto Dunes Buggy for free anywhere within Palmetto Dunes and Shelter Cove Harbour and Marina. Vans generally arrive within 10 minutes of the request and are available seasonally. Car passes are required to access beyond the gated areas.

The Breeze Trolley
The Breeze Trolley is one of the best ways to get around the island. The vintage-looking green and gray trolleys offer free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, plenty of comfortable seating with space for standees, wheelchair accessibility and two bicycle racks.
Rides are FREE and stop every 30 minutes along the route from Shelter Cove Towne Centre to Coligny Plaza. The Breeze is available seasonally.

Taxi Services, Uber, Lyft & Other Paid Transportation
Uber has a contract with the Palmetto Dunes Resort Pass Office where $2 is automatically added to the Uber fair via the Uber app.
Lyft, taxis and any other paid transportation is charged a $15 entry fee.

Getting to Palmetto Dunes
Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort is centrally located on Hilton Head Island. Set at the southernmost tip of South Carolina, the island is an easy 30-minute drive from I-95 via Exit 8. Once on the island, look for the Palmetto Dunes Resort entrance across from Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina. Check in for your vacation rental is at the Welcome Center.
By Air
US Airways offers daily flights to Hilton Head Island. The nearest international airport is Savannah, Georgia, located 45 minutes from the Island. Limousine, shuttle and taxi service is available, and all major car rental agencies are represented.
By land
From I-95, take Exit 8 onto Hwy. 278 direct to Hilton Head Island. Amtrak serves Savannah, Georgia, and Charleston, South Carolina, with several trains daily.
By SEA
Hilton Head and Beaufort are on the Intracoastal Waterway and boaters can be serviced at Shelter Cove Marina, adjacent to Palmetto Dunes.
