Originally opened in 1977, Alexander’s Restaurant has been mainstay of the Hilton Head Island dining scene for decades. We’re thrilled to be able to reintroduce our neighbors and guests to the new Alexander’s Restaurant & Wine Bar, a classic Hilton Head Island restaurant that we’re sure you’re going to fall in love with all over again.
We’ve completely redesigned the space overlooking Palmetto Dunes lagoon and reimagined the seafood-based menu, with the help of executive chef Don Reinheardt and Chef de Cuisine Sean Carroll, to include locally-sourced produce and seafood. The result is an elegant dining room with well-crafted dishes, creative cocktails and good old-fashioned Southern hospitality.
Whether it’s an old favorite or a new entrée, here are five dishes we can’t wait to try from Alexander’s new menu:
The oysters on the half shell at Alexander’s are a seminal favorite and we’ve also added Oysters Alexander’s to the oh-so-appealing appetizer menu. Topped with bacon, horseradish cheddar and crab, it’s a tasty start to your meal and a perfect example of the bold flavors Chef Reinheardt and his team have created.
Palmetto Dunes Pimento Cheese
The perfect starter for your party, this cheesy dip with kick comes served with grilled flatbreads and cornichons.
Shrimp and Grits
What would a trip to the Lowcountry be without shrimp and grits? Alexander’s makes theirs with decadent sausage gravy and fresh golden tomatoes. We locally source the grits from Geechie Boy Mill on Edisto Island, S.C. Heirloom corn is used in the antique gristmills, which preserve the natural oils and flavors of the corn resulting in the most flavorful grits. This delicious twist on a Southern classic will have you coming back to Alexander’s again and again.
Fresh, Local Catch
Chef Reinheardt and his team are experts at seafood, and ordering their catch of the day is a brilliant way to experience their culinary creativity and taste the flavors of Hilton Head Island, including local fish such as grouper, flounder, and blue crabs.
While Alexander’s is known for its seafood, we had to include this inventive dish from their Land & Air Entrée menu! This Lowcountry twist on a classic French dish is a rich stew of sea island field beans, locally sourced quail with smoky bacon and sausage.
